Has anyone "Asked the AD" about this recently?
I talked to the guy that is running it. "We are doing everything we can to get it up and running, but we are dealing with a LOT of issues"

Maybe this is one of them?

If it is not open, is "the guy running it" out of a job? :-) :-(

B) At least it appears they are making an effort to have it ready. :wall:

Yeah, ready to have the EXACT same limited tshirts and sweaters as the student center bookstore has. Heck Kohl's in Akron and Rocky River have better selections. :wall:

It's probably going to be a classroom. I wouldn't be suprised if they gave up on the team shop idea.

They should make it a sports bar type campus restaurant for students and the general public. Keep it open 365 as a hub for Akron athletics. They already have a license for alcohol.

Great idea. OSU has a great bar/restaurant on their student center that carries 3 different local microbrews for cheap ($2.50) on tap. Would be so cool to goto such a place at the Zips stadium quaffing some delicious Thirsty Dog, Roo Brew and Hoppping Frog selections.

And scottditzen,

Yeah that shirt is cool.

it would make sense, but we can't do it along Exchange. Eminent Domain says you can't tear down a business to replace it with that same business. You can't tear down a bar and then put a bar there. One of the things holding back the team shop is that B&N wants to sell coffee and candy, but they can't because the Odd Corner already did that in the same location. One place that would work fine legally would be on Spicer, next to the new dorms.

Don't we sell coffee and candy at the concession stands inside the stadium?

Didn't somebody say Kohls on Arlington had a bunch of Zips gear? Stopped there today and all they had was one shirt and a few hats.

The Walmart on Arlington usually has a decent amount. My mother-in-law just got me a generic Zips #1 football jersey there.

Walmart on market has great stuff. They have polos, t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, women's and even a baby zips football jersey and hat. Everything under15

Was the bar located in what is now a parking lot or is the team shop there?

The bar was located where the parking lot is. But the Odd Corner was exactly where the team shop is, and they sold candy and coffee.

On an unrelated note, I saw these in many different sizes and shapes at the Best Buy near Chapel Hill.

Big sign in the window says they're officialy opening on September 4th.

As for the selection of Zips gear, the bookstore has the most hands down. Places like Walmart and Kohls have 5 to 7 unique Zips items on a good day. They're a lot cheaper than the bookstore items and they have more stock, but the selection isn't there.

I think what made the team shop in the JAR look like there wasn't much selection was the limited space disallowing for stacks of the same item to be on display. You see a large stack of a few items and you might think that there is more there than seeing a bunch of single, unique items with less volume. When they open the new shop, with much more room than the JAR, they'll have almost the same selection of items, but they'll be on display like at a department store with tons fo the same item stacked up or hanging from a rack, giving the impression of a better selection. We'll see if that's actually on opening day.
