Can someone who was at the game estimate how many Zips fans were there? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: When GP1 returns from the mountains, I'll bet he'll wish he liked soccer and was in Chapel Hill rather than the Smokies, or whichever mountains he's visiting. :D

I am so annoyed that I was IN North Carolina and couldn't make it to the game. Wow, knocking off the "other" #1 team at their place 3-0, that's impressive. Let's take it to Wake!

Today was just a bad day for UNC overall. The reason there isn't much reaction to the game is because they found out twelve football players have been ruled ineligible to play, less than 24 hours before the season kicks off. That bad news pushed our game into the background.

But it really doesn't matter what their fans think. What matters is that we got a gigantic win over a top 5 team on the road. If any pollsters out there had some doubts from the USF exhibition game, that has been obliterated. Way to follow up on the SI article and justify the hype, Zippers!

Time to start our quest to become :NCAAC:

First of all, the NC win on the road is awesome. This likely ensures that we'll be the #1 team in the country from this point forward as long as we don't lose.

I highlighted the above sentence for a reason. We're talking about a sport where 1-0 and 0-0 games are common. And it makes a perfect season such a fragile proposition, and adds to the incredible nature of what we accomplished last year. By all accounts, we "beat" USF, yet we lost the game. It can happen again any time between now and November. One lucky goal at the wrong time can change everything in this sport.

And again, I just wish more than 1/1,000th of this country cared about this sport. It would be a great thing for Zips athletics, and the University.

To me, that doesn't matter so long as the people of Akron and the alumni/students of UA care about it. Those are the ones who make things happen. If even half the alumni in the area cared about Soccer, we could fill an MLS stadium every game. And they just might begin to care when their alma-mater wins a national title. I think that's the step that needs to be taken to really turn them on to the sport. All they want is a winner to cheer for. Same goes for the city and region.
