bobbyake
You take a coach from a struggling program and put him into a struggling program and you get what you saw today. I would be a lot more positive if we would have hired the punting coach from Boise State than what we have. I know he doesn't deserve all the blame, Nicely was passing very poorly today. Not feeling very positive at all about Zips football for the next few years. On a brighter note, tailgating was great. Might as well beat the horse while it's still alive. We have great facilities, which should help us recruit. However, no recruit is going to want to go to a team that sucks year after year. I don't care how great your facilities are. I know this was only 1 game, but it wasn't even competitive. Syracuse is a bad team. I know we will get the people on here saying they will be good, bla, bla, bla. But bottom line is we just got crushed by a bad team...again.

ZachTheZip
Whose bright idea was it to try and run a pro offense again? Defense looked better in a 4-3 than a 3-3-5 but that's not hard to do. Playcalling on offense was abysmal.
Wally B
Thanks for the feedback, i unfortunately had to follow the game on yahoo.... My biggest ? was whether we took a step forward (we really sucked lastyr) a step sideways (nothing changed) or if we took a step forward (ala played a lot of freshman/soph to be better in 2-3)? Anyone have anything to add to the above comments? gp1?
GoZips
The sooner Tommy Wistrcill and Ronnie Ianello are fired the better off Akron will be. Shame on Dr. Porenza for hiring these losers.
zipsbandman
Agree with all posts above....what we have in facilities we lack in our athletic department from the AD to our football personnel. Bad hire Tom.
msopher
Toledo fan here who wanted to check out Infocision stadium, which is impressive in every way. Hope you guys can build a program that can sell that place out... Also, the campus with all the sport facilities has to be the best in the conference. Really impressed... Looks like both our offenses are that bad...offensive line and your quarterback need significant improvement. Not sure about your depth at quarterback, but Nicely needs a lot of work done. Also, didn't seem like your receivers tried to get open. Good luck rest of the way...if Toledo played you guys, the final score would be 3-2. What's sad is that I couldn't pick a winner... bobbyake
Not sure if everyone agrees with this but we really should try to mimic Boise State's program from top to bottom. Bring in one of their assistants to enlighten our program. Recruiting for Notre Dame is nothing similar to recruiting for Akron. This hire never made sense to me but it's not like I have any financial power to do anything about it. Maybe one day if one of my businesses makes me rich, I'll threaten to end sponsorships when they make bad decisions.
RowdyZip
Here's what I saw today: A respectable defense and an abysmal piss-poor excuse for an offense. Zach said it right, ABYSMAL on EVERY level. Execution? HORRID. I've never seen so many offensive penalties in my life. It was the same unprepared bull**it that saw from JD's staff. Positive? Only a couple sideways passes. Tom W should be gone now. It looks like he (as well as a lot of us here, myself included) figured the buzz of the new season and coach would be enough to fill that beautiful stadium. Tom, YOU'RE PAID TO KNOW MORE THAN US HERE ON ZIPSNATION. It's embarrassing, for myself, the school and for what Dr. Proenza is trying to do for this University. I talk with co-workers all week about how much fun the game is, and how we always "have a chance" to exceed expectations. What does our new AD do? FAIL to market an opening game against a BCS squad. FAIL to allow my fellow tailgaters to renew our passes in lot 9 over a veiled threat of minimum donations FAIL to encourage apathetic Akronites to come back to a game by GOUGING them $10 to park a car in a "Tailgate Lot." Hey Tom, I will NOT be renewing my season tickets next year. Thanks for making me come to my senses. I will drive down early (early enough to avoid the gouging) to tailgate for the game and have a good time, but I will no longer wasted my hard-earned money on that worthless bull*hit. Down the road, put a quality product on the field and I may come back, but until then, you and your p*ss poor team can enjoy the other 3,000 people that show up to the games. Beating the arses of sorry K-ent is not enough. I'm fed up. Fed up to the point that I'm considering staying home for basketball season as well. GoZips
Tommy W. is here to enhance his resume and move on. Okay, fine. Build the damn basketball arena, get the feather in your sorry assed resume and get out of town. I want an AD and a football coach that loves being a ZIP. Fire Wistrcill NOW and hire Mike Waddell. At least we know he gives a damn.

RowdyZip
I thought I might point out that some of you are being completely irrational. That is all. Oh yeah, go Akron soccer! It is irrational to expect a coach to turn around a team in a single game. True. It is not irrational to expect a team to be prepared to play that first game. It is NOT irrational to expect your University to not squeeze every cent out of those of us that ARE loyal to the program year in and year out. It is also not irrational to stop paying for a product that is a poor investment. Like my 3 season tickets.
zipsbandman
Can we still Get Waddell? He gets it and would come in here with a vision. I'm sorry but ever since that regime left Akron the athletic department has never been the same. We may have better facilities now but those guys made the most out of what they had. As an AD, you need to work on bringing more fans in instead of squeezing more and more out of those who already care. I for one am considering sitting this season out as well and the basketball team as of late has been getting very predictable. I'm tired of this small time mentality. Not speaking out now when you know what we saw today is what we'll see for the next couple of years is irrational. Keeping the football team in the Info is irrational. What's rational is letting the football team play in the new soccer stadium and letting the soccer team play in the Info.
ZachTheZip
I'll continue to show up to the football games if only to collect more ROOwards points. Gotta get those prizes. Also, I wouldn't give up on basketball already, not after the massive roster changes. We don't know what we have there and I would at least see the new faces before dismissing them. ZachTheZip
Back to the game. If you have the stomach to go back and watch, you'll see the offense played out of both a pro and a shotgun spread. When in the spread, the players looked comfortable, the chains moved, we gained positive yardage. When in the pro, things went backwards either through penalties or stupid playcalling or players simply not being the right fit for the offensive scheme. RootforRoo44
I would have to say that is about as bad of a football game as one could watch. After one game i already am certain that i wouldn't let Ianello coach a Pee Wee team, let alone a D1 football team. What a buffoon.
Hilltopper
Nicely looked lost when he tried to pass from the pro set. How hard is it to get 7 men on the line of scrimmage? We must have had 6 illegal formation penalties.
cms133@uakron.edu
HAHA, Why the hell would anyone harbor ill will towards the basketball team because of what happened with football tonight? I think ya'll are too hard on I coach, he's got to get rid of all JD's players & get his own in, then we can make a RATIONAL judgement.
