MaxZIP Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Maybe I think like Mike Hargrove but come on, no way we had a better chance to make the first. If we had gone for it, and missed it, many of the SAME people would be on here talking about how dumb it was to go for it and NOT kick the field goal. Put the points on the board, plenty of time left in the game, no question about it. I think you're wrong there. I bet 95% of us would still say going for it was right in that situation because it was....period. You can analyze it for the rest of the season but almost anyone on here is going to disagree with what Coach I did. I think you take the points at the 23. If we were at the 35, go for it. I think most other coaches would do the same. Too early in the game to leave points on the field. The Akron kicking game is not reliable despite the first field goal. Same kickers as last year. Quote

What, to that point in the game, would make Ianello think he could go another 23 yards and get a TD? Odds were, we would be kicking again in the next 4 plays, even if we got it. Quote

Having 3 more shots at the end zone does increase our chances though. Quote
Blue & Gold Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 As sad as it is to say, I was surprised (pleasantly) when Igor made his first kick. Needless to say, that's just unacceptable for D-1 football. Quote
Dr Z Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 I hope this negative (lack of faith in the kicking game) turns into a positive for iCoach, and he goes out and recruits a great kicker. Quote
