Dr Z Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 GW Linebacker Jeffrey Williams had 18 total tackles last week. Austin Bailey, meet your target, now DESTROY!!! Quote
skip-zip Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I know it may have been difficult for him to find positives in this game, but being pleased that his players looked disappointed from the loss? I would EXPECT that!!! These are 18-22 year old kids who love to play football, have been working hard this summer, and just got their butts kicked in their first opportunity to show the fans what they've got. To me, it would be ALARMING if they had reacted in any other way. Quote

akzipper Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I'd be pleased...we had a sweet 3pts against the worst team in the Big East and Nicely completed a few, wait did he even complete a pass? haha Quote

Nicely does remind me of Frye---- always running for his life right from the snap. Quote

Aaron Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Here's something else iCoach can be pleased about - staying off of ESPN's Bottom 10. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=bottom10100908 I hate the column normally, and its normally 1/3 MAC teams. Maybe a decent measure of success is if he can keep Akron off of it this year? (Akron hasn't stayed off the list / waiting list for an entire season in a LONG time). Quote

But regardless, I am afraid to say that I anticipate at least a few teams in our own league will be better than Syracuse. Quote

Personally, and this was BEFORE Saturday's game, I felt that Syracuse had a chance to get as high as 5 in the Big East (out of 8 teams). After WVU and Pitt, conference is pretty wide open. I would say Cincy has a solid shot at repeating, but they are definitely down a bit (moreso now with the loss of the USC transfer WR). As for where Syracuse would end up in the MAC. While I was not impressed with Northern Illinois during week 1, I feel that UNI, Syracuse and Temple would be battling it out. Quote

If you're right about how good Syracuse is (and I hope you are) then the sky is certainly not falling on the Zips this year. But, I just think we'll find out that this Syracuse team is on about the same level as a slightly-above-average MAC team this year. We'll see. Remember, this Syracuse team could have been beaten by a lot of teams in the MAC just a couple of years ago. I think they're better now, for sure, but not THAT much better. Quote

If you believe the fans sites, the majority of Syracuse fans think the team is night and day different today as compared with 2 years ago. This has been a consistent opinion through the off-season, based on improved play last year, particularly down the stretch. They blame the recent downturn completely on former head coach Greg Robinson, and they have a compelling argument. Marrone certainly seems like a huge upgrade, and isn't coaching a big part of the equation? They have a big test in Seattle this weekend. Jake Locker and the Huskies will be fired up after the close loss at BYU. If the Orange can make it respectable, I think it portends well for their bowl aspirations. If they somehow pull off the upset, it may even turn them into Big East contenders seeing as how the expected top programs have struggled out of the gate. BTW if Syracuse DOES make a bowl this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see them paired with Temple (assuming the Owls qualify). Then we might get to see which of these teams is better this year. zippy5 Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Syracuse is nowhere near as bad as they have been lately. I'd say Pitt and WVU are the top 2, with Cinci and UConn 3-4. After that, a toss up between USF, Cuse, Rutgers with Louisville 8th, imo. Cuse could finish 5th, they could finish 7th, but I feel they're greatly improved. I still don't like losing 29-3 to the 5th place team in any conference. Quote
xu9697 Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 http://www.und.com/allaccess/ Not sure, unfortunately, which link it is. Listened a bit at home and work is not as kind in letting me link up to listen. But in one of the links related to Kelly talking about how his kids acted after the Michigan game, he says things that are VERY SIMILAR to what Ianallo says= saying that they were genuinely down, upset, etc. When you take some of the emotion out of things, amazing what else you can hear. Not saying Ianallo is Kelly, nor am I saying Kelly will be successful at ND (though I think he will be). But they both said about the same thing after a tough loss (SU/UA and UM/ND). Now, throw in GW loss... Quote
