Captain Kangaroo
Is this the year The University of Akron basketball team finally knocks off a major basketball opponent? All other MAC schools have baskets full of marquee wins over the past two decades. We have nothing. IMO the barometer for how good we'll be this season is our performance vs. the big OOC opponents: Cal (who lost to EMU in Ypsalanti already), Mississippi State and Louisville. These are the games that put you on the national radar...the ones that get you into the NIT or considered for an at-large to the NCAA's. On an unrealted note: Sorry to see Can't lost their home opener to Delaware State.

Buckzip
This could have been the year if Wood wasn't so unmotivated. When you think of him from his freshman year, he probably would have been our best player this year.
Z-Pouch
This team will do just fine without Woods -- No excuses, they have more then enough talent to compete with anyone in the MAC. Expectations should still be very high. Woods made his decision, let's all move on. You never know, this may be a better team without him as some may have suggested by the end of last year. Hilltopper
I would bet that Wood never plays another game for the Zips.
Zip Watcher
I'll bet against that. I think that he's just not ready to go. The guy's sticking around, and he has a boat load of talent. The Zips can afford to be patient with JW, and they will because he'll play 2 years with Conyers one way or the other when this all clears up. My guess is that the team will move on for now, but that he'll be back. By mid season, he'll be a force in practice for the interior guys to bang against in prepration for the postseason. Go Zips ... ! Go Rockets ... Go Huskies ..
Akron1
I think Wood wants to play a year out of Romeo's growing shadow, since the Red Shirt seperates the two by a year.
Hilltopper
I hope you guys are right about Wood. My experience in dealing with 18-19 yr olds tells me that it might not happen. Its one thing to be delayed in your rehab by medical issues but that is not the case with Wood. He thought that he could just "play his way through it" and return to the court this year. I doubt that KD is making any future plans based on the return of JW. If he is willing to put in the work to return next season then thats great, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
