All-time Record: 486-471-36 for a .508 winning percentage

If someone has the time, I'd really like to see how we stack up overall against other teams that made the I-A jump shortly after us, especially a couple of those Sun Belt teams since they've had to play similar competition since their move upward.

Since we are looking at 0-12...

We have 6 games left , half of them at home, more than a month of practices, I'm not willing to accept a no win season yet. It would be an interesting line of questioning from one of the press to ask Rob in his weekly MAC phone conference, "Are you confident that you will get in the win column this year, what if you don't, can you call the season a failure? Did you think it would take a long time to get in the win column when you took the job, or did you expect more this season?" This line of questioning assumes we lose in Athens Saturday...which I hope we don't.

Looking at the 2007 Football Media Guide, the worst year in Division I-A was 1994

1994: 1-10 (defeated Ohio 24-10 in last game, & btw, no "bcs" opponents)

1960: 1-8

1951: 1-8

1942: 0-7-2

1931: 1-7

1925: 1-7

1915: 1-7-1

1903: 0-2

1896: 0-1

1894: 0-3

1891: 1-3 (no head coach, just a team captain...I wonder what the result would be in 2010? )

This 1994 year came as a surprise to so many of us old timers. This followed a season where we had a surprising 2nd place finish, and a year where a lot of people were picking us to win the MAC. And the MAC was still playing as one division at the time, I believe. Nobody anticipated such a down year, although we had a lot of underclassman starters.

That Ball State game is the one I refer to where we had a freshman QB who did not even start, but came in and broke an Akron single-game passing record. Quite a memorable game.

You're right about Temple, but I couldn't remember if they were a "good" team at that time. They still didn't quite seem to be on par with a Tennessee or Nebraska, etc. Of course, Cowlumbus State believed it was beneath them at that time to play MAC opponents, especially those in Ohio, if I remember correctly.

I lived out of state for 11 years from June 1987 - June 1998. With much of that time being before Al Gore invented the internet , I could not easily follow the Zips. I guess that was a good thing in 1994.

Check thr Larson-Dennison years against the MAC teams then overall, you'll likely be surprused how well we did.

Going into the OU game, Akron was ranked as the worst team in the country and OU was ranked as the 2nd worst team. The only thing close to that this year is Ball State.

You're right about Temple, but I couldn't remember if they were a "good" team at that time. Temple was NOT a good team at that time, but they agreed to come here to play (on more than one occasion) which is one reason I had no problem saving their football program by letting them into the MAC for football only.
