ZachTheZip
Around this time of year the football coaching carousel begins to spin 'round and 'round at ever increasing speeds. Today, two rumors of interest came out that Akron fans would find interesting. The first is that Ball State has interviewed Curt Mallory, our current Defensive Coordinator. The second is that good ol' JD Brookhart is going to Colorado to be the tight ends coach / passing game coordinator / special teams coordinator. UAZipster0305
Our current defensive coach and JD is on to coach special teams?! Is anyone out there familiar with the last 3-4 years of Zips football?

GoZips88
Can't State: We hear South Florida offensive coordinator Todd Fitch will not interview for the position. Mr. Fitch is a VERY wise man ...
GP1
The second is that good ol' JD Brookhart is going to Colorado to be the tight ends coach / passing game coordinator / special teams coordinator. This is probably a good fit for JD if it is true. He is a west coast offense guy going back to his college days. Colorado is his home state. Some of you think JD was a terrible coach. He may not have worked out as our head coach, but before that he was a very good coach at Pitt and turned a couple of WRs into Pro Bowl receivers. In two years, he turned Hixon into a professional WR. The guy knows football and especially his style of football. I wish him well.

akzipper
cheers JD Texas DC Muschamp going to Florida Remember all you people hate UA for hiring Ianello because he was no a head coach. Muschamp was not a head coach. Florida didn't seem to have a problem with that.
ZachTheZip
I didn't like the Ianello hire because he wasn't even a coordinator. I would have been fine with hiring a coordinator, someone who has called plays and had position coaches under him.

Muschamp was not a head coach. Florida didn't seem to have a problem with that. So, do you think that hiring a recruiting coordinator is comparable with hiring a Major D1 D-Coordinator? ZachTheZip
While nothing has been announced yet, there will be changes to the staff before next season. Look for an area HS coach to be named as a new assistant.

I think a pertinent question might be: Prior to, and ever since, Akron's (err, TW's) obsession to hire Ianello, was there ever ONE college---at ANY level---which ever considered hiring this guy as its head coach? I'll go out on a limb and say...."what, you crazy?" But TPTB at Akron always know better.
bobbyake
Would it go against Ianello's contract to demote him with the same pay to an assistant so that we can bring in a real head coach??

San Jose State of the ailing WAC had him as a finalist in their coaching search last season, but Ianello chose to come here before SJSU could make their final decision. Dave in Green
You've got to wonder about UA. Ianello is the second head coach UA has hired in recent years whose previous college coaching experience consisted of nothing greater than being a mere recruiting coordinator. The other was some guy named Caleb Porter.
GP1
Coach I's bio Those of you who think Coach I has only served as a recruiter are grossly misinformed. The guy has experience as a position coach.
Dave in Green
As far as I know, just about everyone is aware that Ianello has been a position coach. Most folks seem to believe a coordinator is a step up from a position coach, and that recruiting coordinator is the least of the coordinator positions in terms of preparing one for a head coaching position. True, but that leaves him available for K.E.N.T. although I don't think he'll seriously consider them.
ZachTheZip
Maybe DiG can do some DiGging and see about this. Green city schools are in turmoil and they might be forced to drop athletics or go pay-to-play. Their coach is Tom Stacy and he might be forced out to save on the budget. That's who I'm hearing that we're currently pursuing. One of our 2011 recruits, Dylan Brumbaugh, hails from Green. Stacy knows the university, being our QB coach for 8 years. He knows the area, and he knows the local prospects.
