Quickzips Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Well, here comes the big test. The main reason why we are in this tournament. The Miami Hurricanes are a pretty good team this year. They have been in the top 25 in RPI most of the season, and sport a 9-3 record with wins over Ole Miss and WVU. Their only puzzling loss of the year was a 16 point drubbing at Rutgers. Miami pretty well sticks to an 8 man rotation lead by two talented guards in Malcolm Grant and Durand Scott and Sophomore big man Reggie Johnson. Johnson will be a big test for Zeke as he runs 6'10" 303lbs and averages close to a double double each night. Grant is a dangerous long range shooter who takes better than 50% of his shots from long range and hits them at a very nice 46% clip. If he gets it going from downtown, the Zips are in trouble. Scott doesn't take as many 3's, but is plenty capable of knocking them down as he shoots 47% from beyond the arch. Both guards are also capable passers who average better than 3.5 assists per game. If they have one weakness it may be in turnovers as both guards cough it up almost 3 times per game. As a team they don't go very deep with only 8 players averaging double digit minutes. This may come in handy for the Zips with both teams working on their third game in as many nights. Miami is clearly the best rebounding team we will face in Vegas lead by the big man Johnson. If the Zips put up a performance like they did last night against Stetson it could be another long night of watching our opponent come up with two and three possessions every trip down the floor. Zeke, Nikola and Co. are going to have to crash the boards hard if they want to win this one. This is the last chance on the season for the Zips to pull down a big OOC win. Let's get it done tonight! Captain Kangaroo Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Can the Zips muster the effort and focus necessary to beat a Big East team? Can they avoid the dreaded 8-minute scoring drought? Those are the two Keys to the Game: 1.) Have a swagger to compete, and don't play timid 2.) Avoid "Dry Pouch" Stealing a line from GoZips.com: "Only 3 hours and 45minutes until kick-off!!" Quote

Can they avoid the dreaded 8-minute scoring drought? It would be an amazing effort to beat a Big East team when we are playing Miami(FL) out of the ACC. Quote

MDZip Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Doomed I tell you. But is that left or right? Quote
zippy_ua_00 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 any online links besides 1350??? Quote
jem101 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Zeke with two fouls already. Three minutes in. Zips starting slow. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 here we go again with the refs. Though French is wrong with the call there. It wasn't travelling, the player caught his own airball but it was a legit attempt. Quote
Dave in Green Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 All Zeke so far, as he's 3-5 from the field and no one else has scored in a 6-6 game. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Is it really that hard for refs to eat their whistles and let the teams play? God, basketball has become so boring because of these kind of games. I'd watch soccer over this garbage any day. three fouls on Zeke now. (moving screen?...come on Zeke) Quote
Dave in Green Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Halfway through the first half, Zips trailing 22-9. Miami 10-10 free throws, Zips not hitting much of anything. Correction: Scoring was changed to take away one of the buckets Zeke was credited with earlier. Now showing 2-4 for Zeke. Quote
jem101 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Why did I pay $6 to see this crap? Team just looks out of it right now. Quote
Dave in Green Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Stinky poo. Zips trail 38-22 at halftime, shooting 7-23 from the field (0-7 3-pointers) and 8-14 free throws. Quote
Zip Watcher Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Somebody needs to want to take the shot .. sounds like they're playing scared on offense. Still in this game .. need to play a full 20. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Zeke is playing stupid on defense. Three of his four fouls are just terrible. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 The Zips are done. Zeke's fouled out as well. I dont know what it is but every time Dambrot's teams have big games they don't get it done. It's either:The other team gets hot. We play terribly. The officials forget how to do their job.The only big games that we've won that come to mind are FSU in the NIT in 2008 and Buffalo in the 2009 MAC Championship. Other than that, just terrible. Quote
Dave in Green Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Halfway through the second half, and the Zips are still miss, miss, missing. Score is 54-35, and they aren't going to make up that much in the last 10 minutes. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Our entire team is fouling out yet they wont call a thing on Miami...it's mind blowing. Btw, the ref yesterday that was so terrible is back tonight....if you havn't noticed from French's call of the game. As i type this, McKnight gets destroyed after hitting that three and it was so late we should have got the ball back because it wasn't a shooting foul. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Brett McKnight is taking over. He always plays so well in these blowouts against big teams. Then again, we are down 9 now only so not a blowout! 6 minutes left. 13-0 run, Brett with 16 points. Quote
