MaxZIP Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 I think the Zips and Browns will be close next year. Mangini is gone and Icoach will follow next year if Akron doesn't win more than 5. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 It sucks when both of your football teams are miserably bad. Quote
scottditzen Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Ha ha Browns. Good thing I'm a Chargers Fan. Oh wait.... It sucks when both of your football teams are miserably bad. Quote

MAX ... I don't agree that iCoach will be gone next year if he doesn't win 5. His back is covered by TW for at least 3 years. I am hoping iCoach can learn and grow into being a good coach. This year he was pathetic. Here I'm not talking about his team, I'm talking about him as a coach. In almost all areas of performance evaluation as a coach I would rate him as unacceptable. Publicly he never threw in the towel so I will give him credit for that. But in two years a lot of growth can take place. Since he will be our coach I hope he seizes the opportunity. In the final analysis, if he loses the team and school we love loses more. BTW, I think we will win only 3 next year. While that is better than 1, it still makes me sick. Our standards must be set higher. Porter, Dambrot, Mitchell and Engle would never try to convince someone that that level of performance is doing things right. Quote

I'm afraid that we're going to lower the bar, and poor seasons will be considered acceptable. I want competition for MAC titles to be the standard, and right now. Quote

But why would we hire a coach that we knew was going to go through learning pains? It makes no sense to do that if we really do want to be competitive. Why watch a new coach struggle through this process, only to have him hired away once things click? Why not simply cut out the learning stage and save ourselves a few years of embarrassment? If a coach was successful immediately instead of using us as a learning experience, he'll get hired away anyway, but at least we would be successful while he was here. Hiring guys like Brookhart and Ianello and letting them stumble through a learning process seems like a waste of valuable time. In other news, Paul Winters continues to rack up awards. Quote
MaxZIP Posted January 3, 2011 Author Report Posted January 3, 2011 The Zips must win at least 5 (4 MAC 1 FCS) every year or else it is an embarrassment. You don't put 50+ million into facilities for a program that can't win half of their MAC games. The football played last year was unwatchable. Icoach will need to make a quantum leap to even win 4 next year. Do you think that he can make another quantum leap in year three to compete for the MAC title? 4 wins next year means Icoach gets the ax because he is not even close to competing for the MAC title (an easily attainable goal). cornbread Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 5-6 wins is very possible. This is the MAC. I am excited for next season. Quote

Dr Z Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 It will be with a new coach. Mangini is gone.I say Holmgren will meet with himself, be blown away by what he hears and get a deal done for his new coach. I think he's going to demand a high "work rate," whatever the price might be. Quote
