Captain Kangaroo
That's really interesting because I know the Zips are after both Desmond Brentley (W Pa and now being courted heavier by Pitt) and Rick Stanzi (Mentor Lake Catholic)? How long has it been since we signed a kid from a Texas high school? I can't recall one?
ziplock
Sean Hakes with a resounding "NO" to our BGSU rivals!! Take that

ziplock
Sean Hakes named MVP of state championship game. See link below: http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/high_school/13268413.htm I had read a month or so ago that Sean Hakes had Ohio or Midwest "roots". I don't know specifically what that meant ( he or family members living or lived here???), but good for us. After reading the article on the double OT win for the Texas State football championship, and the description of the receiver's route and "slide" to catch the pass, it seemed that Hakes had thrown the same pass Getsy threw to Hixon for the win in Detroit. Beyond that, have we ever recruited anyone out of Texas prior to this young man?
Zippy989
http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/13403725.htm Beacon Journal covering Akron Recruiting??? Now I have really seen it all.. two stories in two days. First on RB from VA Boone and now on QB from TX Sean Hakes... "Hakes, a 6-foot-3, 205-pounder, is considering enrolling in January. He has just one high school class left, and he is looking into taking it as a correspondence course. That way, he could work out with his new teammates during spring drills -- a new but growing trend for some of the nation's top football recruits. ``That's our goal, to get up there in January,'' he said. ``If not, I'll be up there in May.'' Hakes choose the Zips over Mississippi, Colorado State and Bowling Green. Hakes runs a 4.6-second 40-yard dash. He wanted to move to the Midwest to be closer to his family. He was born in Columbus but moved to Fort Worth at age 4. His older brother, Scott, is a student at Ohio University. Bowling Green was considered a favorite until Hakes visited Akron after the Mid-American Conference Championship game. ``I was really blown away,'' he said." Zip Watcher
Check out the following from the Fort Worth Star Telegram: They have great facilities and they put players in the NFL! Read the kid's quotes, and you'll see that he sees UA as a real move towards playing on Sunday. Interesting line of thinking. :macc:
