jjackson123 Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Nowhere to be found? Wasn't expecting to be ranked, but thought we would at least be moving up in the "also recieving votes" category... Anyone? Quote

ZachTheZip Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Don't expect to get any respect. The MM poll has become increasingly biased against the MAC as the years have gone on. We don't have the right coaches voting. Only CMU's coach gets a vote, but in the past there were up to four MAC coaches contributing. CMU's coach mostly sees the MAC West, and so his perception of the conference is skewed toward it being worse than it is. Top 50 Mid-majors (MWC, C-USA, WAC, and A-10 are major conferences according to the poll) according to the RPI as of games played 1/9/11 are: 26 Butler 29 Old Dominion 30 Cleveland State 31 Gonzaga 37 Missouri State 39 St Marys 41 Portland 45 Princeton 50 Wichita State 52 Harvard 54 George Mason 56 Drexel 58 Valparaiso 63 James Madison 66 Vermont 67 VCU 70 Charleston 72 Oakland 73 Jacksonville 76 Long Beach State 77 Nicholls State 80 Coastal Carolina 84 Sam Houston State 85 Northern Iowa 86 Bucknell ------------------------------------ 88 Can't State 89 Austin Peay 90 Hampton 91 Miami (OH) 92 North Texas 93 American 94 Akron 97 Ball State 98 UCSB 99 Hofstra 100 Creighton 102 Robert Morris 103 Belmont 104 Wagner 105 Murray State 109 Wright State 110 Furman 113 Iona 116 Florida Atlantic 118 North Florida 121 Quinnipiac 124 Jackson State 125 Morehead State 127 Lipscomb 128 Presbyterian Quote
Zipgrad1990 Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 I noticed we had no votes last week when Can't State was ranked. I'm surprised OU has votes still when they have an RPI in the 200s. I think OU is still getting by on last year's tournament run. Quote
Valpo Zip Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Valparaiso, who lost to 2-12 Toledo (RPI 314) is ranked 24 with 46 votes. Detroit who we beat in detroit is getting 10 votes Talk about fairness... notice that no one in the voting pannel is from a team we played this year. They probably never even seen us play in a game so how would they know? Quote
ZZZips Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 If we beat OU I think even Steve Hawkins will have to vote for us. We get good mid-major press in other places. This article has two mentions of the Zips. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6007351 Quote
Dave in Green Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 It's funny, but I thought last season's mid-major poll was pretty generous with the Zips, generally ranking them higher than some teams that arguably might be a little better. I guess this is another one of those polls that fans pay attention to when their team is ranked well and ignore when the poll ignores their team. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 The Zips haven't done anything to merit a high ranking yet. No marquee wins...just won the games we should, and lost the games we should. And our wins haven't been by any sexy, "holy mackerel" spreads...we're winning ugly...against mediocre competition...which never impresses the pollsters. I hope we can get on a roll and get a quality Bracket Buster opponent. Quote
Zip Watcher Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 "Under the radar" is a perfect place for this team at the moment. I think in the next 2 weeks .. they won't be eligible to be under the radar, but for now, it's a good spot for our Zips. B) B) Go Zips! Quote

It's disappointing that it basically took the whole OOC schedule for the team to gel, but I think things are coming together very nicely. Everyone's developed well. Quote

I wouldn't call it "disappointing" that they took time to gel. I would call it "expected". Or maybe "unexpected" that they did it so quickly. The amount of roster turnover we saw meant it would take time for the new guys to get comfortable. Quote
