mes102 Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 She left, and has to sit out this year. Very Selfish IMO... i would like for her to hear it from people there even if she can't play...i don't care if she grew up at Hoover HS, she thought she had a better chance of winning at Toledo. If her and Witt would of stayed, we would of been near the top of East right now. Instead, we're 2-6 with a lot of youth. I just feel bad for Murphy who has stuck through all 4 years and never thought of leaving. guess some people are just wired differently... http://www.utrockets.com/ViewArticle.dbml?...p;Q_SEASON=2010 Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Any time a player leaves for another conference team they should be heckled. That's heckling 101. Thankfully, the winter storm will make the JAR even more empty than usual for this game (if it's played) and she should be able to hear our jeers form all corners of the arena while she sits on the bench. mes102 Posted February 3, 2011 Author Report Posted February 3, 2011 Akron women's basketball team leading the MAC-leading Toledo Rockets 24-23 at the half...sounds like a good game...my car is still defrosting...taking me over an hour to get it totally ready for school tommorow... frustrating... COME ON LADY ZIPS!!!!!! BEAT THOSE ROCKETS!!!!!!! Quote
msopher Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 I was at the game. Toledo played poorly but luckily you guys were worse. Both sides missed a lot of open shots but I thought it was Toledo's defense that won the game. Tecca had a nice game for Akron as well as Murphy but I thought Murphy got away with one too many elbows... BTW, not sure how you guys feel about Jodi Kest but I wasn't impressed. She spent most of her energy yelling at the officials over calls that were correct. Seems like she has been there long enough and I still don't see Akron anywhere near the top echelon of the conference (UT, BG, Can't, & Eastern) Quote

Downtrodden, back bencher Zips getting away with fouls even at home. The Refs must be slipping. Most coaches "work" the refs. Get over it. Kest has done a pretty decent job of lifting the lowly Lady Zips out of the stink cellar. All this while being continually poached by other conference teams ... including yours. This season Zips are young often starting three true freshmen. The Sockets start juniors and seniors. Zips got lucky with the scheduling or the might Sockets would have crushed the poor Lady Zips in TwoLeeDo. Try tossing a compliment or two rather than ranting how your over dog team sucked on the road. Quote

I'm not sure how you feel about it, but what would you do if Logan Pastor would of decided to move to McKinley school district instead of staying at Green? Would that of bothered you? Probably not...since you're beyond that... And what are you talking about "just wanting to win"?!?!?!!?!?!!?!?! SHE WAS!!!!!!!! they were the 4th seed in the MAC Tournament last year, and only had 2 seniors gone. She decided to transfer from a team that won 17 games and 10 MAC games a year ago. It was moving in a great direction. She decided to be selfish. If she wanted to go to Toledo, then why didn;t see sign there before? Because the coach wasn't interested then? so Toledo's coach is trying to recruit players already in the college ranks? yeah...i never had a problem with Toledo fans before, but you just made the rep of ur fans go down a lot more...too bad im not going tommorow to watch the Akron men's wipe the floor of the Sockets... Yeah, she left a scholarship for a dump campus in a city that's only famous for its NeoNazi groups and the fact that it's conveniently close to Detroit without actually being in Detroit. She also left a team that was definitely on the upswing and no doubt on the way to being a contender in the conference. She's a traitor and a stupid one at that. Quote

We'll see how bad of a decision Baumgartner made when she gets to play in the NCAA or WNIT tournament in 2012 and 2013. I'm sure Akron will get there by that point... Quote

72 Roo Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 There are two sides to every story and its beneath us to get mad at Toeldo fans for one of our former players wanting to go there. Toledo has a better program. Kest has a marginal record at Akron and has yet to produce sustainable results. When Kyle left the program I asked everyone I could in Akron athletic administration what was it that caused her to leave. Everyone in the know was tight lipped and refused to comment. They at best said she was a good player who didn't feel Akron was a good fit. She will come back to haunt us and Kest bears some of the responsibility. Her record of treating players is spotty at best. I for one hope her contract is not renewed when it is up. So if Kyle and Witt leave, I say thanks but we are moving on. BTW, I've been to Toledo and walked their campus. It is as nice as ours. It has a BBall facility and tradition, in the women's game, that puts ours to shame. I think we are better fans who don't have to resort to name calling to make a point to our opponents. I know that's old-school today, but it is still the better path to follow. Quote

I don't follow the program as closely as others, go to a couple of games per year, catch some games on the radio, listen to the coaches show. So I am not as credible as many of you but my thoughts are- when Kest came in she cleaned house. From what many people said the team needed an attitude adjustment. Now that she has her own players in, having 2 starters leave as upperclassmen is disturbing. One interesting comment from Jodi a few weeks ago on the coaches show and I am paraphrasing - she said that she realizes that not all kids can be treated the same. Some get yelled at and peform worse and she is trying to do a better job dealing with players differently. If effort isn't there that is one thing but on the other stuff she is approaching things differently. My 2 cents, she is a good coach but unless she can figure a way to get the most out of everyone and keep them for 4 years, the Zips will be a mid pack team. She is too good to have them fall back to the past even with attrition, but they are not going to be a top 3-4 team in the league relying on freshman and sophomores every year. Hopefully she figures out the type of kid that she works best with as well because she has had the only success pretty much ever for Akron women's basketball. Quote
