johnnyzip84 Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 JUCO DE Albert Presley announced on his Facebook page that he will play for the Zips. Welcome aboard! He's from the same JUCO as AJ Price. He's small for a DE, but looks to be pretty quick. Quote

johnnyzip84 Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 He does look quick. Maybe he will be switching him to linebacker?? Sounds likely to me, especially after seeing his Scout profile. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted January 5, 2012 Author Report Posted January 5, 2012 While Barry Sanders might be out of our league, Deion Sanders is just the caliber of player that the coaches should be looking at recruiting in their first year. Quote
Dave in Green Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 He does look quick. Maybe he will be switching him to linebacker?? SEC teams have had a lot of success using smaller but quicker defensive ends. Try Googling Barkevious Mingo. Quote

KentZip Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Found this blurb on a linebacker/fullback visiting from Michigan Football recruiting game continues: Letchworth senior linebacker/fullback Clifton Bacon and Webster Schroeder senior Parrish McKnight said they plan to make recruiting visits before the end of this month. Letchworth's Clifton Bacon Bacon will visit Akron University, a Football Bowl Subdivision team that plays in the Mid-American Conference. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound 2011 Democrat and Chronicle All-Greater Rochester selection helped Letchworth win it first state title this past season Quote

ZachTheZip Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 That's some good news. The recruiting class so far is heavy on defense. I also got word that QB Tyrell Goodman is officially enrolled and currently taking classes. Quote

ZachTheZip Posted January 10, 2012 Author Report Posted January 10, 2012 Why do I care? Shouldn't this thread be about Akron commits (with minor exceptions)? This thread is about keeping track of who Akron has offered and where they end up, in an effort to get an idea of who our coaches are trying to recruit against. Check the original post in the thread for a complete list of all the players Akron has offered that are still on the board, all the Akron commitments (we're up to ten now!), and who the other kids we offered chose over Akron. I started it to see whether our previous coach really was recruiting the way I thought he was, and it validated my suspicions. Now we have a new coach with a new recruiting philosophy, but with an extremely limited timeframe to recruit and a bunch of players with outstanding offers. Most of "his" recruits will be players originally offered by Ianello. If there's one thing Ianello could do, he could identify talent. He just had trouble actually getting that talent to commit to playing for him, as the offer board shows. So now we have offers out to talented players and a coach that they might actually want to play for. Quote

I understand why the posts about all players we are going after. But I'm with you, mainly because it gets pretty depressing seeing someone posted here just to say that other schools are out recruiting us. Hopefully Bowden can help us get some, but who knows...
