Three years in a row, first game in the Q and the Zips make it WAY harder on themselves than it had to be. Give Miami credit for coming back, but if the Zips could, you know, finish a gimme at the rim, hit free throws on a relatively consistent basis, or stop fouling Julian Mavunga all the time this game would have been over about an hour ago. Looking forward to tomorrow night against Western. Broncos looked stout against BG earlier. Hopefully we aren't too worn out by this one to come out and lay a whippin on the horse.

whew, even I'm exhausted after this one. Started listening at work, pulled it up on my phone and listened during class, and on my way to the computer lab my phone battery died on me. Thankfully I was able to pull up the stream here and listen to the finale.

Our guys need to go to the hot tub and then go to bed, like now. lol

Miami Hawk Talk Miami Akron thead

As if losing in 2OTs wasn't bad enough, Miami's fan board went down a couple of times - once during the Miami comeback and again in the overtimes. Found that a little amusing and have to take the opportunity to say how much I appreciate ZipsNation.org - GO ZIPS!!!!!

My favorite line: Oh well, go hockey! :D

Back from the Q. The joy of watching the Zips pull one out was tempered by watching Can't whip Buffalo. But the important thing is looking forward to another trip to the Q.

Once again the Zips were not great, but just good enough to win. Don't know if it came across to those watching on TV, but live at the Q it appeared that Mavunga was jumping into Zips players and getting consistently favorable calls from the refs. I don't know if there's any way to overcome the refs, so I wouldn't blame the Zips too much for getting into foul trouble. The refs played a major role in what happened to the Zips front line. Sure some of the fouls were legit. But a large number of them were minor to non-existent. We had a good angle on one of Zeke's first half fouls, and he literally had no physical contact with whoever it was he was alleged to have fouled.

The good news is that Miami eventually tired out before the Zips. Mavunga was on the floor all 50 minutes. Toward the end, he was not very effective. He passed up clear shots at the basket as if he was too weak to jump, and his free throws were falling short. He was one physically exhausted player. This is exactly the kind of game where the Zips deep bench pays off.

McNees, Roberts and Nitro were the only 3 Zips who played more than 30 minutes. So while they may be a step slow in the semifinal game, other players only played a few minutes more than their averages. Zeke and the Serb should be pretty fresh after playing fewer than normal minutes. So while you never wish for a double OT game when you have a tournament game the next day, the Zips shouldn't be totally exhausted. While WMU may be a little fresher, I think the Zips will be able to bounce back and not let the extra PT tonight be a major handicap.

I just listened to KD's post game comments and i wish i didn't.

I am all for coaches showing poise and confidence and moving on but i feel that there is a thin line between having poise and being careless.

So someone asks KD about blowing up a huge lead in few minutes and his response: giggle and say that this is how we've been the whole year. Like this is our destiny that we have to accept and there is nothing he (as a coach) can do about it.

And get this second one: with the foul trouble situation, i was close to playing Josh Egner especially that he's been playing great in practice but i decided it wouldn't be fair to him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would like to hear Josh's opinion about this.

I think that comment was more directed to the fact that the foul trouble really didn't start to become an issue until pretty late in the second half. By that point in time if you haven't been in yet, to try and go in a highly contested game and play effectively is a very tall task. At that point your halftime warmups and everything aren't going to be helping anymore, and it is going to take some time for you to loosen up on the court. I thought about Egner the moment that Nik fouled out, but in hindsight I think it was the right call not to play him in this one. It isn't like coming in at the end of a blowout at bench clearing time.

I thought Keith learned his lesson years ago when we lost the Penno three game -- if you are up by three points why do you let them shoot a three. Did anyone ask Keith that question? I was screaming at my radio in the car. It seems like such a no brainer I have no idea how he let them shoot a three to tie the game. STUPID!!!

The kids are suppose to guard people ... especially on the perimeter. They didn't. Don't blame KD.

With out looking at a video I am inclined to think that we were in a zone and as per usual, people were

way too far off the ball.

The foul to prevent the three strategy is for less than five seconds remaining only. I just checked.

There were nine seconds remaining. Besides, Steve nearly pulled us out with a three ball at the buzzer.

Personally, I have more issues with Diggs twice fouling a three ball shooter in the act of shooting.

Forgive the first time. The second time, grrrrrrrrr, not happy at that fluff. Fortunately, their Roberts

was on rubber legs and bricked half the free throws.

We were only up by two in the Penno game, maybe he didn't learn it then. :)
