Xavier soccer made the NCAA tournament last year, so they do have some talent. They would have been the Zips first opponent had they beaten WVU.

Ok thank you, I wasn't quite sure if Xavier had made the tournament last year. Well, it will be another good test for us then.

Damn! It's funny (in more than one sense) reading this description. I remember not very many years ago, when "we were Xavier" -- just making the NCAA tournament was considered a successful season. Do not forget how far we have come! And that there is just one :NCAAC: Coach Porter

BTW, Xavier has a very fine player from Jackson HS -- one of the state's best players in HS, who was "not good enough" for Akron.

Anyone attending the 2nd home exhibition this Saturday?

Don't know too much about Xavier soccer, but don't think they are too good, perhaps we can finish some goals this time.

Like MD said, Xavier made the tourney last year. In fact, they got really close to knocking out WVU. If memory serves me right they went up by a couple goals early in that one before WV made a comeback. Also, Chris Korb was a transfer from Xavier.

I live in Jackson and I believe F Danny Baraldi has signed with Bowling Green, so we will see him this year nonetheless.

Weather permitting, I will be at the Xavier scrimmage.

I hope the weather "permits" this scrimmage in Akron and the Sporting KC vs Crew match (featuring Teal Bunbury) in Columbus. Go Zips and SKC!

Hopefully the weather holds. If not looks like its going to be a sloppy game. 90% chance of rain, thunder, and wind all day.

If anyone is interested who is attending the Akron/Xavier match. A few of us are heading to Kevin O'Bryan's Pub on S. Main afterwards to watch the El Classico - Barcelona v Real Madrid at 4pm and going to stick around for the 730pm Crew v Sporting KC match.

2-2 final. Xavier goals came in roughly the first 2 minutes and the last two minutes. This seems to happen to us a lot. I saw some good footwork from Luke Holmes, and Tommy Schmitt had some really good looks, just didn't finish on any of them. There were about three or four times I was expecting to see a goal out of him. If he keeps getting minutes and keeps playing the way he has been playing, I think it will come soon enough. Kyle Culbertson came in towards the end of the first half and in the second half he pulled a couple of Kofi-esque runs out of nowhere to get deep into the attack and he made some good crosses. He was the only sub used in this game. I'll be interested to see how he develops. Darren, as it has been stated before, is still Darren. One of the other guys in the Rowdies section made the joke "Don't the other players on the team know by now that if Darren passes you the ball he expects you to pass it right back to him?" We also kept making jokes that he is still just learning how to pass the ball and it is new to him.

It's interesting to see Porter continue to switch-up the starting 11. This time last year, we pretty much knew who would be starting in the Fall, but I really wouldn't be able to guess that at this point. It will be even more interesting to see who competes for playing time when the rest of the new guys come in. I am also anticipating a few new signees over the summer, as players are dropping from our roster. I made a comment earlier this year that it seemed we would have a logjam up top. Well, there were some rumors going around today, and so I checked the roster on gozips, and it seems that in addition to Richard Diaz and Gabe Genovesi, Darren Mattocks' fellow Rastafarian McKauly Tullloch is no longer a Zip. I would love to be behind closed doors to see what is going on in there. Seems like anyone who might be not be considered a huge role player is getting axed. Not everyone can contribute all the time, but I guess this probably keeps the competition pretty tough amongst the team.

There was also a little tiff between us and a parent from the other team. That was pretty funny, I'll maybe tell that story later when I'm bored.

Only one more Spring game and that's it until next Fall.

Exhabition or not, I'm not happy with the way things are going. If we don't get better in a hurry, there'll be no :champs::NCAAC:

Give it time, give it time! You lose seven players on a starting soccer squad, its not so easy to recover like in other sports.

The key will be how the season comes to an end, October is the time for the team to come together.

+1

You don't lose 7 starters and move on as if nothing happened. These guys need time to learn to play together and Caleb needs time to understand how these guys are playing and the adjustments that he needs to make. We've been spoiled the last 2 seasons. This team still deserves our FULL support...I'm more disappointed in the fan turnout than I am in the way these guys are playing. I don't care that these are only Spring Exhibition games...players (and coaches) who work as hard as these guys and are as proud of playing for UA as these guys deserve better support even in a cool Spring rain.
