Captain Kangaroo Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Rasor column says this guy is a Zip:Click to See 8M .mpg - Download itJUCO LB with 3 years of eligibility remaining. I'm sure a former Zips asst. coach help to get this kid to Akron. Quote
zff Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 This young man looks very good. He is a little short but he seems to hide behind the guys up front and then comes out and puts a big hit on the ball. He also seems very strong he can take on the big blockers. He also flows to the ball very well. I can see this kid coming in next year and being the stating MLB for the Penn State Game..... Quote
GP1 Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 How little are we talking here? I don't want any LBs shorter than six foot. Quote
Buckzip Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Rohr, and Stokes are both listed under 6' Quote
InTheZone Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 I think Bryan Howe deserves the start at Penn State. He played outstanding in relief roles for Jay Rohr this year and at times I thought he played better than Rohr. He's a strong kid who can get off blocks and lay licks, exactly what you need in a MLB. If not Howe, then Al-Teric Balaam will start. This kid was lightly recruited, he's undersized, and it's easy to look good on a JUCO field. He won't be our starter next season. Quote

I haven't seen Brian Howe enough to have an opinion on him. Stokes, Rorh and Grant saw 90+ percent of all the LB time last season. Is Howe any good? If so, why no real PT in 2005 or before? Quote
zff Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Mickey is 6'0 225. I like Howe to but from what I have seen he is too slow on side to side pursuit. We need some one who can fly at MLB. Quote
zip37 Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 itz--- it's EASY to look good on a JUCO field!!!!!!????? Get real, the competition is equal for the most part, seems like B. Biggs was a steal, don't you think?WBALAL Quote

Biggs was a steal, don't you think?WBALAL Well from this video this guy honestly didn't even look that good. If those were his "highlights" I'd hate to see his lowlights. He looked like he shyed away from contact when he had running backs coming directly at him, and not once did I see him take on a block from an olineman and shed it. He dances around blocks and he's afraid to stick his nose in there. I'll be honest, I think we signed better backers the past two years where this kid isn't gonna see the field much. And as for looking good at JUCO, it is fairly easy. Now Brett Biggs, he looked GREAT in JUCO, and we were still his only offer. Quote

If so, why no real PT in 2005 or before? Howe was injured most of 2004, and 2005 he would've seen a lot more action except he left the team for about three weeks for personal reasons. He was playing a lot more at the end of the season and got some quality snaps in the MCB. I think he'll surprise you guys next year and be pretty solid for us alongside Grant and Stokes. Quote
fear the brown roo Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 if howe can stay healthy he'll be as good, if not better, than jay rohr. he's a hitting machine and a good athlete. in addition to ankle and shoulder problems, i think he had a couple of concussions. Quote
liljc Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Sure, Howe is a hitter, but he is often injured. He needs to stay healthy, before he can make an impact. Also, I NEVER saw him outplay Rohr at any point this season. IF he can play like Jay Rohr, then these next two seaons will be a lot of fun. Quote
fear the brown roo Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 agreed, howe didn't out-play rohr in any way. you can't compare him to jay based on a few snaps and special teams play. i'm just saying if he can stay healthy, he has the potential to be a solid linebacker much like the over acheiver jay rohr did. you won't find a bigger fan of jay rohr than me :macc: Quote
