g-mann17
I can't disagree with that. Actually I have had this same type of argument with some conservative friends of mine about a lot of issues. I blame the Obamacare nightmare on the Right. If they would have done something during their years in complete control this would never have happened. Instead, they decide to come up with alternatives when it is too late. The right appears to be more reactive where the left is proactive. But that's the problem with the whole thing. Issues that politicians should be working on and fixing are put on the back burner while they worry about whether Bonds was juicing up or whether Boise St. deserves a chance at a national championship. If I had to list my three biggest issues with government...1. Not focusing on issues and not actually working. I work 48 weeks out of the year, they should too.2. Too many layers of government, why does every podunk community of 5,000 plus need a $70,000 a year mayor, reimbursed council, $100,000 a year police and fire chiefs? If you want to know where our "over taxed" issues come from, its this kind of BS. I'm not saying every thing should be Akron, but stop the fear mongering of annexation. It requires a majority vote from both parties to annex.3. Double taxation!!! - Fix unemployment by saying this "for every 1000 people you employee at 50% above minimum wage, you get a 2% reduction in corporate taxes" and yes this means if you employee 50,000 people your corporation pays no taxes. For small business owners, we won't tax the business, and you may write yourself an "employee wage" that is taxed, if you write it less than 50% more than your highest paid employee then we will ask questions. Aaron
Personally, I believe that Republicans worked pretty hard to lose the last election. I don't believe they had any interest in the presidency this term. First, they run a decent kind of boring fellow, who would supposedly get crushed by any charismatic Democratic candidate. Then, when the R's were STILL leading by points, they found the most ridiculous VP candidate they could, and McCain stayed quiet for most of the rest of the campaign. The Republican party encouraged Palin to be the one who runs against Obama (basically), and still only managed to lose the election by a few points. Not quite as obvious as when the Democrats ran Mondale against Reagan, but it looks like the Republicans worked hard to lose this one. GP1
If I had to list my three biggest issues with government...I only have one issue. They need to get back to providing basic government services and doing the basic job of government well. For example, recent studies show 1/3 of all bridges in the US are in disrepair. I drive a lot for a living. One in three bridges I drive over are in disrepair. That is a worry. One in three bridges you drive over with your family are in disrepair. Want to put people back to work? Fix the basic things that are broken. Don't build more until we fix what we currently have.
GP1
First, they run a decent kind of boring fellow,Boring is one thing. A head full of skin cancer scabs is another. Skin cancer + Sarah Panlin = Possibility of Palin becoming President if McCain died. Am I the only person who thought of that last election? Tell the truth... The guy should have never been nominated.
Dave in Green
Infrastructure is a major, fundamental issue for me that is critical to keeping America great. I think there are many issues on which liberals, moderates and conservatives have common ground. But many of today's politicians are too busy pushing emotional, divisive issues to energize their most rabid voting bases. So my vote is not locked into any political party. My vote goes to the candidates who convince me they have the most positive and productive solutions to the country's issues and not to the ones who shout the loudest, most outrageous insults at their opponents.Trying to get elected by calling your political opponents "anti-American" is a sure way to lose my vote. When McCain selected Palin as a running mate....my neighbor says to me, "so what do you think of Palin?", me: "I think she is a numbskull and the democrats will win the election", my neighbor: "well I like her, she likes to hunt, and she is easy on the eyes." lance99
I think the Republicans are destined to run a babbling idiot with a moron for a running mate.I agree. Obama is currently losing to the generic Republican by 8%. Believe me, when the generic becomes real, that number will turn quickly. Obama is so easy to beat is isn't even funny, yet the Republicans won't be able to do it.There was a good article written recently about how FOX News has destroyed the Republican Party. Great read. FOX basically puts lunatics on the air and because they are on the air all the time, they become normal to the viewers. There was once a time when people like Hannity and Bill O' would have been laughed off the air by Republicans. Palin is alive today because FOX kept her alive. Bachmann is alive today because FOX kept her alive. Newt is alive today because FOX kept him alive. There is a list as long as your arm of fools who are kept alive by FOX News.Everyone knows what FOX News is, I even said it last week what is going to happen. GP1
Everyone knows what FOX News is,It's starting to look more and more like it is owned by a criminal organization.Personally, I watch CNN. I know it leans liberal and that doesn't bother me because I know what it is. At least it isn't FOX or MSNBC. The NBC news with Brian Williams is real good if I'm home at 6:30. I'll also watch Morning Joe because Meka (sp?) is such a MILF.

yazan07
The good thing about the 21st century is that we don't need to rely on three news stations to get our information. There are an unlimited amount of resources on the internet to find out what is going on in the world and within our own boarders.

There is a list as long as your arm of fools who are kept alive by FOX News.I watch many news organizations. NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, MSNBC, CNN, Sky, BBC and even Al Jazeera at times. The reason why Fox became so popular (they are by far #1 in the ratings) is that the mainstream media went left to far left and there was a huge vacuum in the middle and right. Independents will be watching CNN and Fox. Don't blame Fox...blame the demise of unbiased journalism (unless you think it is a journalists job to make the president successful or OK get shivers up their leg when they listen to him). But...you think the masses are idiots. That is why you are in fact an elitist...just not an intellectual one.
Zipmeister
I think the Republican members of Congress could put together a football team that would beat the tar out of a team composed of Democrat members of Congress. The score would be more lopsided than a Mount Union/Akron 6 on 6 game.
GP1
But….you think the masses are idiots. That is why you are in fact an elitist...just not an intellectual one. Please look up the number of viewers FOX has on a daily basis and tell me whether or not you think that qualifies as a "mass" audience in comparison to the rest of the country.Hint: FOX primetime viewership in 2009 was 2.9 million, which is less than 1% of the US population. They have had a 29% increase in viewership since then which puts them at 3.7 million or 1.2% of the US population. The masses are not idiots. The people who are attracted to FOX News because they want their belief system reinforced are. The same goes for Keith Olberman and MSNBC viewers. Dave in Green
It's pretty simple, really. Some people listen to the news to have their belief systems reinforced and some listen to the news to have their belief systems challenged. If you're open-minded, you want to constantly be exposed to all viewpoints and continuously question whether or not your belief systems are sound. If you're close-minded, you want to shut out all viewpoints except the one you've bet the farm on. Dave in Green
It doesn't only apply to the news we choose to watch. It applies to all human interactions. We all have the option to either seek out and consider other points of view that may conflict with our own personal belief systems, or try to shut out and shut down other points of view that have the potential to cause us to reconsider our positions.America's greatness is deeply rooted in diversity. Yet some people think their own personal belief systems are the only ones that qualify one to be a "true American."
