johnnyzip84 Posted September 2, 2011 Report Posted September 2, 2011 The MAC is getting off to a fine start in 2011, with particularly strong showings against normally tough CAA squads. Currently the scores are as follows: Toledo 58 New Hampshire 22 8:00 left in 4th Temple 42 Villanova 7 Final Central Michigan 21 South Carlolina St 6 Final Bowling Green 27 Idaho 7 11:10 left in 2nd Next week could very well be just as much of a challenge as this week. Edit: Future foe FIU is rolling at home over North Texas 41-14 in the 4th Quote
ZachTheZip Posted September 2, 2011 Report Posted September 2, 2011 Umass is beating Holy Cross 17-9 in the 4th quarter. I figure we should start following them since they're moving in next season. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted September 2, 2011 Author Report Posted September 2, 2011 Umass is beating Holy Cross 17-9 in the 4th quarter. I figure we should start following them since they're moving in next season. Good point. I watched some of this game on CBS College Sports. Kelly Pagel (former Brown QB Mike Pagel's son) is now the QB at UMass after transferring from BG. UMass held on to win 24-16, but they were not particularly impressive. The CAA might be down a little this year based on early results. In other MAC game updates, the 58-22 score held up in the UT win over UNH. BG eventually defeated Idaho on the road 32-15. Quote

One of the big differences will be the fact that we are playing that at home. The spread on that game won't be 30+ like it is this week. Quote

johnnyzip84 Posted September 2, 2011 Author Report Posted September 2, 2011 Regarding Temple, the media is focusing on Bernard Pierce coming back strongly from his injuries. But in my view, it's this guy who really concerns me. He could very well solve the Owls main problem over the last few years. I was hoping the coaching transition might trip Temple up some. But early indications are just the opposite. It's OK. I want the MAC to be as good as it can be, and I want the Zips to be a part of that. Quote

Figured I'd throw my two cents in as a MAC blogger, but also a UMass alum and fan -- absolutely terrified after the results last night. Jonathan Hernandez is running strong, but the offense just got bogged down and Holy Cross isn't that intimidating. I think it's possible that UMass took the game lightly, but also Holy Cross scored with 51 seconds to go in the game so the final score wasn't totally indicative of the outcome. Still, not a confidence booster, especially with how UNH was throttled by Toledo last night. Quote
