Captain Kangaroo
A friend of mine from the Pittsburgh area is telling me LeSean McCoy, RB from Bishop McDevitt HS, is considering skipping prep school and committing to Akron. McCoy is 4-star. Top 10 RB in the nation...even ranked ahead of Chris Wells by some. He broke his ankle after game 4 of his senior season. He was on his way to becoming the #1 rusher in WPIAL history. Click, if You Hate the Beacon JournalStay tuned...
ziplock
Wow!!!How huge would that be for us?? Scout.com lists him as a five star!!!! Lets see, a veteran and deep O-Line, studs in the backfield, an improving group of receivers with some new recruits with a big upside, a qb with experience and some more with great potential, an experienced d......look out MAC...the 'Roo trains a'comin' and it is gonna run over you.Go Zips! Zipgrad01
I would love for that to be true, but lets not get a little crazy. This guy was the pre-season #1 rb in the country before being injured. Also, his coach said last night he is down to Virginia Tech, Miami (Fl), USC and PSU.Penn State did get a 4 star rb commit last night. That really helps, but I honestly doubt he would even remotely consider Akron. I will keep my fingers crossed, but I will also be realistic. zipsbandman
I am skeptical about this happening. How did this guy obtain the information? I think the word "consider" is just that. Akron probably crossed his mind but this kid realize he can go to some great BCS schools. We can say the same thing about Chris Wells. Supposidely, Wells was considering too.I mean come on. Look what we play in.

InTheZone
Cap'n, that would be absolutely amazing. Even if it doesn't end up happening, at least we now know another player of this caliber considered us.
InTheZone
From Rivals: Mike FarrellRecruiting AnalystRivals100 running back LeSean McCoy transferred from Harrisburg (Pa.) Bishop McDevitt to New Berlin (N.Y.) Milford Academy earlier this month. Recently there has been some speculation on whether the 5-foot-11, 204-pounder with 4.4-second speed would make a commitment on Signing Day to either Penn State or Virginia Tech. Is McCoy going to sign or does he plan to wait?McCoy plans to wait out a decision until next Signing Day. "LeSean has told me he isn't planning to sign with anybody on Signing Day, at least right now," said Milford head coach Bill Chaplick. "He sees no advantage to signing since he's going to be here through Signing Day next year. Instead, he just plans to continue the recruiting process and hopes to enroll in August 2007."Lots of schools have continued to show interest in McCoy."LeSean has been in contact with Penn State, Virginia Tech, Miami, Southern Cal, Tennessee, Michigan State and others," he said. "There are plenty of teams that would love to sign him, but he doesn't feel that is necessary at this point."Meanwhile, the No. 7 running back in the country has taken to his new school."Since he arrived at Milford, LeSean has been 100% focused on academics," he said. "He hasn't really talked much about recruiting at all."McCoy at one time was rated the No. 1 running back in the country, but he broke his ankle early in the season and is still recovering. Reports confirm that the recovery is going well.
TXZipFan
riginally scheduled to announce his decision next year, Rivals100 running back LeSean McCoy out of New Berlin (N.Y.) Milford Academy has changed his plans and intends to announce his decision on Signing Day, Wednesday. Who is the 5-foot-11, 204-pounder deciding between? Jan.30 (TODAY)RB McCoy to announce on Signing DayMike FarrellRivals.comMcCoy plans between USC, Virginia Tech, Penn State and Miami."LeSean will be committing to someone and signing on Wednesday," said Milford head coach Bill Chaplick. "I know his final four schools are Penn State, Virginia Tech, Southern Cal and Miami. He's been in contact with all four of his finalists recently and decided to make a commitment."I don't know which school he'll pick or a time he is set to announce on Wednesday. He plans to firm up a schedule for a press conference sometime Tuesday."Some speculation has been that McCoy may be looking more at Penn State now that Pat Devlin committed and Vidal Hazelton is still considering it, but there appears to be no truth to the rumor as McCoy hasn't been in touch with Hazelton recently.Originally, the four-star running back was scheduled to announce between Penn State and Virginia Tech.Despite making a decision, McCoy still plans to be at Milford through May 2007.McCoy is rated the No. 43 prospect and No. 7 running back in the country. He is also the No. 2 player coming out of the Keystone State this season....................................................................................................................................................Could Akron have slipped into Pennsylvania and stolen a GEM??? Dr Z
One thing didn't come across in the cut and paste, the headlineThe headline reads "Will LeSean McCoy sign Next Week", meaning this was written last week.Hopefully the info we have here is more up-to-date. zipsbandman
The article suggests that the choice is between VA tech and Penn State. Don't know if it is accurate or not.

Zipgrad01
In other words, he isn't coming here. No need to get excited about it because it isn't happening. Sorry to be blunt, but maybe there is someone decent out there that we actually have a chance of signing.
TXZipFan
He could be looking to pull a fast one and keeping the Akron move hush hush... at least thats how I hope it is.
MRasor0200
The fact that McCoy originally wanted to sign next year, and he now will choose on Signing Day, makes me think CK's source might be on to something.

Zipgrad01
No, it's called being realistic. I would love to see it happen, but who in their right mind is coming to Akron when they have offers from USC, Miami, VT, Penn State, Florida, etc... The guy would get laughed at.If I am so loser minded name a top 250 player that has EVER considered Akron. We are talking USC, etc...that we are competing against. Why would he want to come play in a rotting rubber bowl with 7,000 fans watching?I love the direction the program is going, but we will get better prospects slowly. We aren't going from 2nd & 3rd team all state players to All-Americans in one year. We will continue to get a few more top players every year, but McCoy is a little out of our league at this time. Maybe not in 4 or 5 years, but he is right now.If I am wrong, I will GLADLY eat crow, but somehow you guys have to see my point.
InTheZone
Alright, made a few calls, and I can confirm.....there's some real substance to this rumor my friends. It's a real possibility. WOW
zipsbandman
This would mark a major milestone for this program. Obviously our coaching staff is thinking big in pursuing this kid.
zff
Ok how does it work if he would sign with the Zips. Does he sit out all next year? Or can he get his grades in order at Prep School and be able to play this coming year? Even if he does sign I will not be totally excited until he is on the field wering the Blue and Gold.... InTheZone
That Memphis team we just played down in Detroit, and that running back that ran all over us are a similar story. Memphis was a down-trodden program that hadn't sniffed a bowl game for 30 years and a winning season for almost a decade. Williams was a top ten running back in the nation would said screw you to the big boys and went to Memphis with hopes of instant exposure. I think we saw in Detroit the results of that. If we land this kid, it could mean dominance in the MAC for the next four seasons.

I believe the story is that he will most likely be eligible at the end of this semester but wanted to stay in prep school another year because the big boys didn't think he could handle college academics yet. The story with us seems to be JD's told him he has faith that he can make it at Akron and wants him to get started on his career next year.
