johnnyzip84 Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 I'll might take a beating for throwing out this jinx, but in the first two games, we have not thrown an INT. We've fumbled three times an only lost one of them.We did well with penalties the first game and only had four (OSU had 3). Shot ourselves in our large kangaroo feet last week with 8. Can't have that many penalties. Buckeyes intercepted, I'm sorry was that to ugly...My bad. I misread the stats on GoZips. I'll still take only one INT in two games. It's actually two (one in each game). BUT, the 1st was a tip ball off of the receiver and the 2nd was after the QB was hit, causing a quacking duck over the middle. Quote
Dr Z Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 Here are a couple of photos from game day.Shirt sold in team shop. This was the line 5 minutes before kickoff. One gate open.Found in trash can just before getting to the gate. No more Columbus gear at games.Extended tailgate time.Hey, mind if a Temple fan chimes in here. $2 molson cans at bar across the street? how can you beat that to wait out a lighnting storm. Lots of friendly Akron fans and a helluva hot bartenderMH, I think I got to say "hi" to you. You were the only one with the Temple shirt on at the bar correct? Quote
ZachTheZip Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 This was the line 5 minutes before kickoff. One gate open.Somebody should tell them that there are gates at every corner of the stadium. The other three entrances were ghost towns. Quote
Valpo Zip Posted September 13, 2011 Author Report Posted September 13, 2011 We had a guest who decided to join us to the game, so we had to stand at the ticket window to get the additional ticket. When i showed up, there were only two people in front of me. 20 minutes later, i was still in line and so were around 30 people behind me.The couple in front of me paid for their tickets by credit card and the guy asked them to hold on until he prints their receipts >> the printer is out of paper >> the printer is jammed >> they're getting more toner >> 15 minutes later: Sorry sir: we can't print your receipt!!!! The customer (in his 60s) was really upset and mumbled that this is nonsense and that he will never comeback My turn! I showed the ticket guy my season tickets and asked if it was possible for him to find me a third ticket in the same neighborhood. He replied negatively (which is fine) if it didn't take him 5 whole minutes to give me back an answer. Walking away from the ticket window, my wife hinted to the guy that if he keeps going at the same speed, the person at the end of the line will get in an hour after the end of the game But hey! this thread was supposed to be about the positives people Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 I can't help but think that these examples of the athletic dept running a Mickey Mouse operation aren't somehow tied to an enormous shortfall in revenue caused by the demise of the football program. I'm not excusing it. But they're probably grasping for straws right about now. No matter how successful the rest of the sports teams might be, the financial figures have to be pretty ugly. Quote

mh55 Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 I was in Pints for a couple. We had about 8 Temple fans wearing Cherry and White in there. I'll be back in 1-2 years... Quote

While this is going on, we move the customer and the clerk to the side and put somebody else at the desk to keep the line moving. We DO NOT EVER hold up the line for a single customer longer than two minutes without finding a way for someone to get the rest of the line moving again. At an event like a football game, you could also arrange for the customer can pick it up at the ticket window at the end of the event. Our gameday operations is completely awful and needs a major overhaul. Big Zip Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 I'm guessing the Athletic Administration had ticket takers based on the attendance expected. I won't blast the administration for this because I would chalk this up to my fault for waiting until the last minute to get in the game. If we would plan accordingly we would have all been in the game and not in line. You can't staff the ticket takers for a 10 minute rush prior to the game. By the way my wife walked around to the other side of the home stands and walked right in...beat me to the seats. I'm all for blasting the administration for their poor performance, but this is a non starter for me. Quote
Big Zip Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 By the way my post was about the line only....the ticket sales problem was ridiculuos. Quote

I'm not excusing it. But they're probably grasping for straws right about now. No matter how successful the rest of the sports teams might be, the financial figures have to be pretty ugly.I don't know what the books say (I suspect you are right), but this is awful and didn't happen at the Rubber Bowl even with large crowds. They could go to the Cleveland Zoo and train some chimps to scan tickets. People would show up just to have their ticket scanned by a chimp. We shouldn't think this won't impact other sports as well. Tell one of those people standing in line they should, on the spur of the moment, go to a basketball game and buy a ticket. Can you imagine standing in line at the JAR to buy basketball tickets for a half hour in February after driving downtown in a snow shower? Nobody will risk it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the football program sets the tone for the entire year in sports as it gives people a positive outlook of UofA sports and the University in general if they show signs of life. It's just plain bad. It was opening day for crying out loud and the Zips have always had decent walk up crowds on opening day. Quote
