I was already told a while ago that Tennessee was going to be finalized. I was pretty excited. That's one of the two noisiest venues in the country, along with LSU. That will be an incredible atmosphere, and it's a very cool city.

Why exactly?This is good scheduling for the program and good for the fans. Marshall at home, Pitt at home. That creates great interest. UCF to open up with next year? Yes the team needs to play better, but these are teams fans know and are familiar with. Who cares when and who schedules it?

Why do I see that Pitt game here never happening? 1 for 1's with BCS schools when the "lower" school plays at the bigger school first= time and time again the bigger school buys that game out. Overall, though...good scheduling.

I agree. I don't see why we are playing CFU and FIU in the same season and what that is trying to accomplish. Why are we playing top level Big Ten teams and not the Minnesotas and Indianas of the world. How about Duke or Wake or Kansas or Kansas State or Iowa State or Colorado State or New Mexico? Hell, get NC State back on the schedule...I saw them last weekend and they are going nowhere in a hurry. Michigan?...They will be loaded by the time we get around to playing them. Notre Dame and Pitt in the same season I don't like.

Notre who? I like the fact that they play a team like Pitt and get a home game out of it. As I mentioned previously on this board at least it might pump up the home interest. It also give us a nice,close road trip.

I'll take one for the team and volunteer for this duty. :DSeriously though, I like the future opponents for the most part. I don't think we've ever played TN, ND, or UMich and we have a home-home from Pitt and their fans should travel well. And if they break the contract early, that's just easy money for the athletic department and we can schedule an easier team. UCF and Marshall are familiar opponents from their days in the MAC. The other opponents should be at our level and winnable.I'm a bit surprised we haven't scheduled WVU for a 2:1...I'd expect their fans to travel well too.

WVU would be a great 2:1 if we could get them to do it. I think they'd travel much better than Pitt, although I'm thrilled the Panthers are on the schedule for a 1 and 1. I grew up watching Pitt and went to several games as a teenager at Pitt Stadium during the 1976 National Championship year.The Zips actually have played in Knoxville, but it was way back in 1989. I remember current UCLA offensive coordinator Mike Johnson making some plays at QB against the Vols that day.

Absolutely! Its close enough for a road trip for the few Akron fans who might be interested. And,it might generarte a little local interest as wellas bringing some Pitt fans to fill empty seats.Also like that they are playing the Sunbelt. For most MAC teams those are competetive games.

I agree with what you are saying about scheduling the lower to mid-level BCS conference teams if we are serious about trying to build the program by getting some nationally noteworthy wins. Apparently though Coach Ianello and the powers that be in the program are opting for the other option, namely scheduling for recruiting first and wins second.Make no mistake about it this schedule was put together with recruiting in mind. The MAC level high school prospects would much rather go up against the Penn States, Michigans, and Tennessees of the world than the Dukes, Iowa States, and Minnesotas out there. Plus, games with UCF and FIU give Akron more noteriety in Florida where Ianello undobtedly had many connections while the cheif recruiter at Notre Dame.Personally, I would rather see us go the route where we pick up wins over lower BCS competition and build our way up to bigger opponents because it means the potential for more wins. However, I can't argue against the fact that better recruits are needed as well and that this schedule will help. I don't know that there is only one right way. I just hope that the program gets to a point where MAC titles and bowl berts are possible and even expected in the not too distant future.

I would argue that we do have winning in mind if we are trying to improve recruiting. It just means the time frame is long term vs short term. That does not sit well in a "right now" culture in the USofA. If that is the goal...I hope we are successful....or at least see the light at the end of the tunnel soon.

Good point...especially about Florida. We still need a few wins to make the strategy work.
