ZachTheZip
You see this all the time. The noisy students were diluted in a sea of silent, texting, fair-weather fans. The sheer volume of the crowd forced the core fans apart and it was very difficult to get anything going. On road trips, the noisy Rowdies are all in one compact group and can use their voices together to create more noise than opposing fans who are often spread out. You nailed it. It's almost like we need a section on the hill for the "Super" ROWDIES. It's really hard to get into a chant if no one else around you is joining in. As for me, my throat is sore, so I did my part... That's one of the big reasons they are separated for basketball games. We show up to the games to affect the final score, not to chat with friends and only cheer when somebody with a microphone tells us to. Exactly...At the next soccer match, can we get the "REAL ROWDIES" the spot right beside the opponents bench? Just wondering if that's possible
GoZips
A lot of great comments on page five of this thread. I completely agree with them. A large number of students partying, chatting and basically acting like third graders. Especially teeny-bop girls who paid no attention to the game. The Zips gave a fine account of themselves excepting the defensive break down that left Meves hung out to dry. Fortunately fireball Holmes returned the favor with a stellar play of his own. and, I agree with a poster that Holmes is going to be fun to watch. Watched tOSU's numbers five and six continually rabbit punch Zips when setting up for corner kicks. Also disappointed that the officials let the Suckettes get away with numerous fouls. All the teaching handiwork of John Bluem. What brought a moment of joy to my old bones occurred after the game at my local WalMart. A middle aged man noticing my National Championship tee shirt asked if I had been at the game. Affirmative. Did the Zips win? Yes, 3 to 1. "Hurray, I hate the F..ing Buckeyes." The cashier also cheered. Folks, I do believe we are winning the battle for the local folks hearts.

bisbee
No matter what I AM TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY by the AK ROWDIES. IF we can get everyone doing the same chant at same time, it'll be more electric than ever before. But that's like saying Ohio State isn't dirty...not happening... zippy5
I think we're in a good spot when we're complaining about the noise levels of 1800 students at a soccer game. As for the "super rowdies" comments, quit alienating the other fans. That's why no one sits down low at the bball games.
mes102
Maybe we won't alienate them if they actually cared about being part of the game instead of being at the game. Just hard to see the more dedicated Rowdies get no support from everyone else. If the "non-dedicated" students wouldn't mock, laugh, and be sarcastic about what we do, maybe we wouldn't isolate them...
Hugo42
It's crazy to me all the chants we have we don't have one for our coach. Nor any of our star players just I did think the osu crows was louder than our rowdies and the fact we are having this discussion should be embarrassing for a group who say they are the best in the nation. Just saying my two cents.

PAUL HAMMOND, PAUL HAMMOND.... lol I mean, our chant about Akron scoring a goal totally warranted that talking from him... we pretty much crossed that line by about a mile lol HOWEVER.... Theres still no excuse for standing right with the core rowdies and not participating. Look at this video around 2:10 and youll see what I mean. Theres maybe 200 of us actually going crazy. The rest just stand there and "look pretty" Maybe we're asking too much of them? I realize we can't get everyone involved, but come on... if youre going to be a frontrunner, at least cheer when you should.

Well there should be rules and regulations instead of just caring about numbers. The people who don't know the chants should not be allowed to be rowdies. I am all in favor of passionate fans and students but isolating and ridiculing other Zips fans is rather...pathetic. Work to get your group in a separate section if you don't like to sit with less enthusiastic fans. Get a group to sow up early and mark of your section if the school will not do it for you. The plan should be to make things enjoyable that others will join in. But if they don't...leave them alone. Go Zips Go Rowdies

Then we give it out to the others with the tickets we have left. It's strictly business come playoff time. Same with basketball. I just don't get what you want from us Doug Snyder. I'm hearing it's sad that OSU's 100 students were louder than our 1,800+ students, but yet you want to keep us together with the students that are diluting the sound of the Rowdies. What do you want us to do? We can please everyone. We're there for the soccer team. Not to make students happy...

What do you want us to do? We can please everyone. We're there for the soccer team. Not to make students happy... First... I would like for you to take a moment and read what I write. I repeatedly have said that you should get together so that your voices will be heard and maximized. I also said that I appreciate passionate fans and students...it is what makes student life great. But you will never, EVER see me write or say that you, or anyone, should disrespect other Zip fans. It really is that simple. Be a fan...be as loud as you want...get as many involved as you can. But respect other Zip fans. Simple. And if you have done things to get them involved and they choose not to be involved...leave them alone. If you sit in the same section all the time people will understand that is where the Rowdies sit and it is loud and crazy and fun. If they don't want to participate...they will find other areas to sit. That is why many avoid your areas in basketball (or so I read). I don't want this to come off like I don't like the Rowdies...I do. It is great to see such passionate fans for the team I love.
mes102
Sorry for the way I'm coming off on here. Just getting confused by it. Just don't understand about the respect thing. I've been respectful to the fans. People we're in front of me that aren't normally in front of me (I'm usually in front row). Just hard for me to do that when I'm repeatedly getting not respected. two wrongs don't make a right, and I know that. I never said anything to them, I kept the thoughts in my head to discuss here. Because there's no where else for the students to go that just want to watch the game and not chant, etc. I GET THAT. Just frustrating when you have more students and the opposing students are louder in your own house.

Part of my discussion stems from discussions during last basketball season where some forum members think it is right and OK to isolate and ridicule fans that do not participate. So...when you use the word "isolate" I may be assuming something your did not mean. If you go the women's soccer games as you say you do...you will surely will see me with my 3 year old daughter. Crew8
Just a thought, has anyone thought of spreading out and turning around and sacrificing to be a CAPO? Where I stand every game on the hill, you can't hear the chants because everyone's voices are heading towards the pitch. So if I can't hear the chant, neither can anyone else, so how would they follow. And they continue to socialize as if I'm back at a High School football game. I'm not sure, I'm not packed in the middle behind the goal, so I don't see or hear everything that goes on down front. But I'd think if you spread out some groups, designate a few CAPO's, pass out chant sheets, it would help the process of what you're looking for. Another thing that's always bothered me, but I'm not sure if its allowed. Where is the TIFO? I'd think with the amount of student involvement, why not make some overhead banners and flags. I've seen one or two flags before, but none tonight(maybe I missed it). One night of paint on fabric, could easily be the class of college soccer. I'm all game if you need any help.
