yazan07
Any thoughts on this one?I'm not sure I would be too worried about the gauchos by themselves, but it is their fans that concern me. This is probably going to be one of the few, if only games this season where crowd could have a negative impact on our Zips. I wish I could be there to support them. It would be incredible to have the Gauco Locos vs. the ROWDIES, but I think distance will probably prevent that showdown from ever happening in full force outside of a College Cup. ZachTheZip
I think the Rowdies have prepared the Zips somewhat for a true hostile crowd. The players know what we can do to opposing teams and they should be well prepared to endure the same thing at UCSB.
zippyfan34
Any way to watch this game online? I don't have the sports package on my cable and therefore can't watch it at home. Since it doesn't start until 10 I don't think I want to drive up to Akron to watch it at a bar. I wonder if BW's in Massillon would have it? When they are "on", they're capable of beating anyone in the nation -- particularly in the Locos' Den. I'm looking forward to it -- hope the team doesn't arrive like Wednesday morning or p.m. That would be a bad sign.

Try 3 Brothers Tavern in Jackson Township, right on Wales, same plaza as Buehler's. If the match is not on, they will gladly put it on. I may be there myself. I might call Massillon Cable and see if I can add the Basic Plus package for $9.95 a month and do it just for this month if they can hook it up by Wednesday. I don't know if they would make me keep it for a year or something though.

bisbee
I am stoked for this one! Let's hope it's an NCAA record crowd and the Zips win on national teevee. Weather forecast calls for rain and much cooler than normal temps. UCSB poster on BigSoccer predicts 5k if rain and 8-10K if not. No where close to record. Maybe fans have given up as they already have 3 losses.

There is nowhere to sit. At this point, attendance is limited only by capacity. More would attend if they could just see the pitch. Zips are the hottest tix in town. Leave the sidewalk there, and build the grandstand in place of the worn out tennis courts there...

tbozeglav
just throwing this out there now that its been mentioned of expanding the soccer stadium again... they shouldnt expand TOO large. By limiting the available "seats" as they are now, they're manufacturing a little more demand for the seats available and thus increasing the intangible value of the ticket being purchased. Granted this is only effective to certain extents before its so limited that interest diminishes, but where we're at right now is PERFECT. We're able to pack almost 6k into our facility for our big games and yet maintain a 3k average and not seem like the facility dwarfs the crowd. It is true that Demand can be manufactured, up to a point. But I disagree with you a little bit, UAzipsMan. This is a case where Supply is not matching real Demand. UA should add grandstands behind the entire club box seating. These would all be season tix. They also need to add seating available to General Admission. I suggest risers on the bank, on either side of the benches. That would swell capacity to over 7,000, which, I think, is just about right. GoZipsGoZips
Just finished watching UCSB lose at home to UC Irvine 2-0. Have never seen them play before and I was far from impressed. They don't seem to have anyone who can finish and their defense seems quite slow. They have given up 5 goals and scored one over past two games and have allowed 12 so far this season. I obviously don't know if this game is typical for them. If it is we should return for the NIU game with a 8-0-2 record. We abosultely need to win this game... but even then our RPI will take a hit as it might knock UCSB out of the top 25. RPI is always graded all the way out to the last team... but beating top 25 teams have more impact than the next 25. Right now our RPI looks to be pretty weak. Winning out will help that... but we still need to be concerned about UNC, Creighton, New Mexico... and some 1 or 2 loss teams ranked below us. We need to see some teams step it up... Like Fullerton, Northridge, New Mexico, Cal Poly, Tulsa and Ohio State.

Knocking them out of the top 25 in the polls doesn't mean anything to how the RPI is calculated.

Tulsa, Northridge and OSU just aren't very good.
