MDZip
Don't ever want to get so complacent about Zips soccer that we don't have a game thread. Zips up 1-0 on a Thomas Schmitt goal.
MDZip
Nice goal by Mattocks to steal the ball from the goalkeeper and get a goal, 2-0 Zips! Not much time left. This will be Caleb's 100th win as Akron's coach.
bisbee
Nice win. Total domination. Shots 27-2 !! Corners 14-1 !! SOG 12-0 !! We need an effort like that for 90 minutes.
fknbuflobo
Nice result on a beautiful evening. There remain many things to improve, but some real progress here. Much more fluidity. What was Porter yelling @ Meves walking toward locker rooms at half time? I could not make it out. Trapp looks really good @ holding MF. Once again, he may have been the MOM. Was Balogun injured? Or was this a way for Porter to get both Schmidt and Holmes on the pitch at the same time? Personally, I like Holmes more at MF than F. Brenes provided an undeniable spark in limited time. I would like to see him get more minutes. Yedlin needs an inside move to get the left footed shot teams are giving him. Defenders are cheating for him to go right, leaving his left wide open. He still manages to beat his man to the right half the time on speed alone. When this kid gains a bit of polish, look out world. Had a few excellent crosses and he always hustles on defense. GoZips
Nice win. Total domination. Shots 27-2 !! Corners 14-1 !! SOG 12-0 !! We need an effort like that for 90 minutes. If the Zips put on 90 minutes of full on soccer the match would have been a slaughter and stopped in the fifty-seventh minute 9-0. Meves was up and down. He nearly muffed two shots in the first half and then redeemed himself after the break. He is still disappointing and scary.

fknbuflobo
Great homage to Porter's 100th win by AK Rowdies! For those of you not present, they were holding aloft large cutouts of a 1, and two 0s after the match, while chanting his name. Nice! AKRs are awesome. edit: Bobby beat me to it. MDZip
Great homage to Porter's 100th win by AK Rowdies!I think I heard Frenchy say that Porter was the fastest to 100, and that only Sigi Schmid had also done it in only his seventh year. jem101
Great homage to Porter's 100th win by AK Rowdies!I think I heard Frenchy say that Porter was the fastest to 100, and that only Sigi Schmid had also done it in only his seventh year.Pretty sure that is correct. Fastest to 100 is pretty impressive! A couple thoughts.1)Really loved the way the Zips dominated the game. Hartwick packed it in and the Zips kept pushing till they broke through. Would love to see some possession stats. Was probably close to 70-30.2) Schmitt is in form right now! Probably my favorite player this team. His non-stop hustle is hard not to like. 3)I was interested to see if they would play the ball more wide this game. Seemed like Yedlin got a lot more touches tonight than last game, but not so much for Stevenson.4) Meves scares me sometimes... haha That ball that got through his hands at the end of the first half was really scary!5) Quinn played some great balls. Of course the assist to Schmitt and then he had another ball to Holmes from the center line that Holmes probably should have scored on.6) Loved the new formation. Holmes seems like more of a mid imo anyways.
yazan07
2) Schmitt is in form right now! Probably my favorite player this team. His non-stop hustle is hard not to like. The thing I love most about Tommy is that Porter has received a lot of criticism (mostly from elsewhere, not us) about kinda telling players they should leave in order to make way for new freshmen, transfers, and internationals, but Tommy is an example of paying your dues and working hard and going from not playing much to breaking into the starting XI. I am happy for him.I think the change in personnel was to get Tommy and Luke in the starting line up together, something which we had not yet seen. It seemed to work well and we definitely had a more aggressive attack tonight, however I have to wonder if Porter just knew that Hartwick wasn't going to pose much of a threat offensively and that's why he didn't mind not playing our destroyer tonight. Works hard and runs at 150%. In perfect form right now. Gotta love it.Akron still seems to make so many mistakes passing the ball, so many easy give aways in the midfield. I've been holding back on this issue and seems to be my only issue with this current squad. Yes, I'm sure its due to so many young players and new teammates. But I'm concerned as we get deeper in the schedule. Correct the passing mistakes IMO and we're #1.Meves.......catch the damn ball! Easily could've risked a draw. I don't know how many breaks this kid is going to get. I hope it lasts forever. Does he have a 4 leaf clover in his pocket?Hartwick, small squad, first team this year I've seen live where we might of had the height advantage. 11-12 corners, gotta win those. Every corner should be going towards the head of Mattocks, he is our tallest leaper.Hartwick had their chances tonight, not a strong team, but it could've easily been 1-1. But we got the 2-0 win, we move on.
Dave in Green
..... Porter has received a lot of criticism (mostly from elsewhere, not us) about kinda telling players they should leave in order to make way for new freshmen, transfers, and internationals .....That sounds like a negative the way it's phrased. If it was worded slightly differently to imply that Porter is honest with his current players in letting them know that incoming players might be more talented and take their playing time away, and that if they wanted to be assured of a lot of playing time they might be better off transferring to a team less loaded with talent, then it becomes a positive about Porter rather than a negative. Wil Trapp is an absolute animal. Did you notice how much better the distribution was with him back there?

I don't really want this discussion to get rolling again the way it did in the Spring season with all of the transfers, and if it does and it's my fault, sorry. Basically what I was saying is that in a team that is always so talented that it seems you're either the best and starting most of your time there, or you just occupy a bench spot, it's cool to see how Tommy has risen through the ranks.
