Need to find someone else

Recommended Posts

I'm tired of posting things that normally aren't mentioned here because it's not men's soccer, men's basketball, or football. So when I keep hearing from people "Does anyone care?", I take it seriously, because I CARE. I go to this university, and I feel every sport matters. I want every sport to be a MAC Championship contender, and jsut about every sport is. The problem is that people don't give certain sports, or a certain gender and their sports a chance to see what it is like. I'm tired of hearing people say that this team is far away from winning the MAC Championship in women's soccer. THEY ARE NOT. I still feel they can win the MAC Championship this year. The problem is that they wait to see certain games, and when someone has seen them all season long, and people who haven't try to downgrade those opinions/posters, it just makes me sick to be a part of this fan base. I don't care if I get banned/suspended from ZN.o, because this will probably be my last post on here for a long while. I coach high school basketball, and a lot of my time will be taken up soon. Won't have time to try and give information that the majority of these fans "don't really care" about...So since I'm not "useful" on here, I just don't have time to argue with that opinion. Time to lace up some shoes, and get ready for a high school basketball season!!!! Later Akron fans, just made a Zips fan that goes to just about every sport per year, feel not wanted on this "prestigious" fan message board  ...

I'll be at the Akron at Can't State women's soccer match tomorrow, and will be at the women's soccer home game vs Ohio. I will be at most of the Akron women's basketball practices, and will try to make the ones that are open that are men's basketball practices. By the way, I refuse to stand with the Rowdies now. They say they show up to every sport, but I don't see them at women's soccer that could use their support when falling behind...All my other time will go towards high school basketball now.I know a few appreciate my scores, but I'm just running out of time to argue with the others. Got nothing else to say...SO....Later Zipsnation, It's been a fun ride

Oh no! You do not get off the hook so easily!I, like many others, have come to depend on you for regular updates on the women's program. The team is right on the cusp of winning the MAC. If not this year, surely the next. Several on the team are from Jackson Township, where I live. I follow them.Unfortunately, it is common for humans seeking actualization (college students) to first define who they are NOT, to identify those to exclude. Do not let the bastards bring you down. Keep up the good work.

See...I am telling you this is a strange ZNO day. Sarcasm at an all time high and we are potentially losing good people. We REALLY, REALLY need a victory Saturday and for the soccer team to find it's Mojo. The sarcasm and negativity needs to abate and that is the only thing I think that may work.mes102 is one of my favorite posters.

I want to say that I'm sorry to everyone out there. Should not of posted this. I should of just typed it out, and deleted it after I got it out of my head. I didn't, and I'm sorry that I fell into the hole of negativity this week. It's been a stressful, tiring, and long two weeks. With midterms finally winding down, I now have high school basketball picking up speed as we start practices next Friday. The weather is getting on my nerves, and wasn't helping. Then, with the constant "laughing at me" when I'm trying to persuade students to go to women's soccer game at Can't, and home game vs Ohio. Then, i messed up on a couple of my posts, and misunderstood the replies to my posts which were misunderstandings to begin with. When I go to almost every home sporting events and a few away sporting events, it really bothers me when some people feel they have a better grasp of a team than I do. However, with this said, I'm NEVER , ever, always right. I will be wrong from time to time, but just because of one loss that I felt they were going to win, don't count that team out as "they have a long way to go." I am going to make two points though that I feel should be brought up:A) I will go to the Zips march for Coach Porter, but I refuse to stand with the Rowdies until the Lady Zips get a "support" at their games. The reason why the men's team never loses at home, is because there's support to pick them up when there's adversity. With women's soccer, if they face adversity(I hope no women's soccer player takes what I'm about to say personally), it snowballs right in front of them. The reason for that is because of two reasons: 1) they have to rely on each other to pick themselves up, and 2) usually it turns a home game into an away game when they fall behind at home because usually each opponent brings in a better crowd than we do. I feel the Miami(OH) loss at home could of been prevented if there was support, and I feel the Michigan State loss would of been closer if they would of had more vocal student support. There's 3 more chances for the Rowdies to prove their motto or slogan, and be supportive of ALL athletics at Akron. Two of the 3 games are close enough they should go:tomorrow at Can't State-4pm start-FREE ADMISSION for everyoneSunday at Buffalo-12pm start-FREE ADMISSION(men's game is free admission tomorrow as well)Thursday vs Ohio-3pm start-FREE ADMISSION FOR STUDENTS WITH ZIP CARD B ) Will not be able to give in-game updates as I will be at Can't tomorrow fighting, chanting, and yelling at Can't State's goalie in political, well thought, words :D for that full point for the Wagon Wheel Challenge. If everyone doesn't know, we currently have a 1/2 point lead on Can't State in that challenge right now with Zips volleyball beating Can't State on homecoming weekend 3-0. I might be going to Buffalo sunday to see the women's soccer team as well. However, I'm going to sleep on this and post my usual weekend standings in the morning before I make any more ridiculous thoughts. I may even post the MAC scores so far from the men's side as well to try and make up for my irresponsible posts/thread. Once again, I'm sorry to everyone and won't let it get to me again. Just to let everyone know, since my midterms are finally over, I'm going to enjoy tomorrow whether it's sunny or snowing. I am going to men's basketball practice in the morning(if they have it...can't remember if they do), then eat lunch, watch the women's basketball practice, and then head over to Can't to watch the Lady Zips give Akron a point and a half lead over Can't State in the Wagon Wheel Challenge. Feel free to let me know if you're going to any of them and I would be willing to meet with you. Then, I''m off to see my alma mater play against a very good opponent on senior night, and hopefully pull the upset like they did last week...then saturday, coach my brother's youth soccer game at 8am, come up and see women's basketball practice, tailgate, men's basketball practice, and then hopefully an upset in the college ranks as well...Sorry for the thread again everyone. BUT PLEASE, if you can make it tomorrow to Can't at 4pm, ADMISSION IS FREE. Can't is currently ahead of us in women's soccer standings, but has beaten all the teams we have beaten so far... Please come out and support just not the women's soccer program, but AKRON as well...One last time I want to say my apologies for my outburst, and wish everyone a good night...and GO ZIPS!

Having fallen for a few sarcastic remarks in my time, I hope we don't become overly sensitive here and lose our appreciation for good sarcasm. Heck, if we lose all sarcasm on ZN.O, Zipmeister as we know him will cease to exist. What a loss that would be to these forums.@mes102, your contributions are appreciated by more than just a few around here. I know we all have bad days when we think the world is against us. But we have to try to avoid taking everything so seriously that we lose our sense of humor. There are some genuinely humorous posts on ZN.O, including some that might have been intended to be taken seriously but which are well worth laughing at. Think of what a boring place this would be without laughter-inducing posts.I think it's healthier for everyone to assume the best and not the worst about everyone else's posts. Even if the occasional poster is seriously trying to zing you, it only works if you allow it to.Don't let someone else set the rules for you.

DiG, I completely understand and I let it get to me. Zipmeister is different though because we all know that basically 98% of his posts are sarcasm. It's people that I never hear on here all of a sudden that show up out of nowhere and put nothing in their post for me to think it was sarcasm. As I was trying to take my outburst typed out, and then delete it, I was debating with a friend about how they argued that men's soccer deserves better support from athletics. And that women's basketball, men's basketball, and football get too much support from the athletic department, and that it's totally a shame that this university is shpwing it so obvious to everyone. That just blew my mind to pieces and couldn't believe what he was saying. This is the same guy that never goes to men's or women's basketball games, and he says this? Then with the weather, the sad week of Akron sports to this point, high school basketball starting to make me worry that it's right around the corner(week from today), and then this friend decides to say this? It kind of put me over the edge when typing all that... I said I was sorry about it, and I still feel sorry for it. I'm trying to put it behind me, and learn from it...Next time, I'm going to make sure I don't hit "Add Thread" or "Add Reply" when someone gets me a little over the edge...

Don't be sorry about this thread. it's a good discussion and a good reminder that we're all Zips fans and should be a little more mindful of each other. I appreciate good sarcasm and don't always do a good job of indicating that I'm only being sarcastic in some of my posts. Most of the time when I post stuff like that, it's because I'm so frustrated that my only outlet is to share it here. [i've finally realized that I have to stop posting stuff in the football forum. I want to see the Zips do well, and I care, but it hurts so much to see our program where it is that I have to stay away. I know I can't handle it and don't want to berate it. I care enough that I renewed my season ticket to provide the program some funding, but I just can't go because it aggravates me so much.]As far as the Women's Soccer updates...many thanks, and please continue to provide them. I know I don't respond, but I do read them. I wish I could attend more of our athletics programs' games, but with living 40 minutes away and working (including travel for work), I just can't get to everything I'd like...especially in the Fall when football, soccer, and basketball coincide.

I just saw this post and want you to know that I appeciate your updates and support - especially of the women's soccer team!!I believe that you are one of a handful of people that understand that the women's team is young and slowly building so it can become a great program in the future. You can understand that although their record may not leap off the page - they aren't concerned with the numbers. They are trying to play tougher and tougher non-conference opponents each year so they can reach the next level. And look at this year - they were competitve in these games where as a few seasons ago they would have been blown away. This is a young progam, 11 years. And like any new(er) program, it will take time for all the pieces to fit together. Many forget that. The program is evolving and could really become something special with the continued support!!Please keep up the good work.....and hopefully we will see a good turnout on Thursday. The ladies need a boost. A win means the MAC tourney. Thanks mes102!

Remember that they beat Michigan in Ann Arbor to begin the season...and Michigan is in the top half of the Big Ten right now...
MES... you're relating a few things here that aren't valid (or fair) relationships...First... the team's performance to your contribution here. We need more people like you... even if your updates are brief because of your schedule. I like to read your updates to keep up with the ladies... and to get some insight into the team... as Akron Athletics never gives us any insights into what's going on with any Akron team. I wish that someone would do that for the tennis team... so that we might have some insight to what is going on (e.g., will Olga be a #2 or #1 singles, and what is up with Angelina????).Second... the performance of the ladies versus attendance (Rowdies and others). Although the Rowdies seem like a bunch of party animals at men's games... among them are some students too... and they cannot possibly attend every sporting event on campus. Also... keep in mind that the men sometimes play away games in front of small crowds... and it's got to be disheartening sometimes as they are accustomed to big crowds here and away.Third... other than the name "Akron" on their jerseys... there is no comparison between the ladies team and the men's team... yet... and we don't look for that for a few more years. I firmly believe that we will have an ELITE ladies team some day... mostly due to the accomplishments of men's soccer. The facilities here for ladies soccer have to be among the best in the country... and the reputation of soccer here at Akron is also a draw for aspiring lady soccer players. It will happen... some day.I do remember that the ladies beat Michigan... away... and that they opened the MAC season with a tie against the defending champs... but... I can't think of the ladies program without thinking that it's been a disappointing season. Very disappointing! They have little chance of winning the MAC... and might not make the playoffs. I also remember the Michigan State game... where our ladies got blown out by an average Big Ten school (Michigan is now #7 out of 12, MSU is #4). http://www.bigten.org/sports/w-soccer/spec...-standings.html More importantly... the loss at Can't is by far the most disappointing part of the season. That game should have been seen as a lock at the beginning of the season! Instead... 2 days later... Can't claims the MAC East title. http://www.kentstatesports.com/sports/wsoc.../20111021we9yzqSo... how can you blame attendance on performance at this game? Can't was home... and played before a crowd of 230 !!! By the looks of the photos... they must have been counting the teams, coaching staffs, and passing goats that they use to keep the pitch tidy.http://kentstatesports.com/sports/wsoc/201...otos/0008/indexEven more disappointing... the game could end up costing us the Wagon Wheel this year.

By the way, I just want to say that the women's soccer team has been dissapointing this year. But you can't say that it hasn't been an interesting season to say the least. I'll take each of your points and explain my point what I made more clear.1) Thanks for the praise, but the ladies are trying. You have to understand, that the talent level is much higher in the junior class than the senior class, the sophomore class than the junior class, the freshmen class than the sophomore class, and the incoming freshmen class than the freshmen class. When this happens, do you go with experience or do you go with talent? Coach Pfau has had to find the right combination for this, and I feel that he had it before some injuries that happened that weren't reported or talked about by Coach Pfau. Since then, he hasn't been able to find the right mold and this team keeps letting teams hang around and potentially, lose the game because of it.2) Saying this team has almost no chance to win the MAC tourney is like saying the Akron men's basketball team had almost no chance last year to win the MAC tournament. It's basically the same scenario. It may be different sports, but they're basically in the same dilemma. Men's basketball was expected to be good after the way they started MAC play, just like the women's team. Then the Akron team hit a hard stretch before rattling up a streak of wins. The women's team had their stretch of streak of wins in middle of MAC play(not as many wins in streak as men's basketball due to length of season), and feathered as of late. Same with men's basketball team against Can't State and Ohio. Women's soccer with a win against Ohio, gets in MAC tourney. The most likely #1 seed will be Toledo, who Akron has taken to two overtimes the past two seasons. The #2 seed will be Can't State, who we should of beaten. If we get 7th seed(which is possible...can be as high as 6th), we have a chance to get a 1/2 point back from Can't State as long as we beat them. #3 seed will mostly be Central Michigan, which we tied at home 0-0 and had chances to win. There's no way I see us not having a chance to win 1, 2, or the whole thing if we get into the MAC tournament just like the men's basketball team did. 3) Students don't have classes on sunday. I understand some go back home or some do their homework on sundays instead. But not all 1-2,000 rowdies do. I feel the marketing is completely terrible, and feel I could help the athletic department out in that area(email me if you're reading this, Mr. Wistrcill  ). For example, there should be no reason that Akron's women's basketball game shouldn't be close to a shutout. Florida State will be ranked in the top 10 in the nation when they come to Akron, and wouldn't it be great to beat them with a huge crowd? May be the only national ranked team either basketball team plays in the JAR all year. But back to the students, it just sickens me to see students be more loyal to their professional teams than the college they go to when the only connection most of them have to their professional teams is location. I see a lot of students at volleyball matches in the stands, but volleyball is 1-9 in MAC play right now. Women's soccer is having a better season. What's the problem with it then. I've personally talked to a lot of the players through in person or on social media networks, and they all expect small crowds on the road. Most men's soccer road games are small attendance numbers as well. However, when these ladies go to a men's game on campus, and see the atmosphere, and then see the crowd for their games? They feel not wanted, betrayed, and that Akron fans want them to lose because they're not showing up to show their support. If there was one game, where everyone showed up like it was a men's soccer game(fans and students/rowdies), I'll guarantee you the women's soccer team WILL NOT lose. As a former athlete in high school, you cannot believe what a huge atmosphere does towards a player's energy level. And what have I been hearing from people this past couple of weeks. "The players look tired", "the players may be out of shape", "worst conditioned team in the MAC", and on and on. I wonder why... ...maybe it has to do with that they got nothing to play for except for themselves. "No one else cares about us, so why should they care how we play if no one watches?" Don't tell me they don't say this, because these are exact quotes from messages on twitter/facebook i've received from players. To be completely honest, I feel that Coach Pfau has done an excellent job of keeping these players from transferring. I've heard people say the reasons they don't is because they want to play for the coach and they love their teammates. That's it. They love the people who do come out, but don't care about the people who won't...4) If you just look at the stats of the Michigan State game, it was a blowout. The problem with that game was that was 3 games in and the players weren't mentally ready. They were hoping for a big crowd, which was my fault. I set up a facebook event for that game 3 weeks in advance, and about 500 students said "Attending", but only 50 at best showed up. It was also raining that day, and when we play on slippery conditions, if you haven't seen, we don't play well. I feel it's because the ladies aren't used to that type of weather with the style they play. The style they play is to have the midfielders possess the ball and kick it wide to the player coming up from the side, which was another reason we lost at Can't (field wasn't regulation size in width) because we couldn't play our style. Anyways, that Michigan State game was a snowball effect. It was only 1-0 at halftime. I do agree with you this team is not an elite team. to be honest, I don't remember saying that. People quickly said they could win a game in the NCAA tournament after they beat Michigan. I went along with it to be optimistic at the point. In reality, I felt this team could and STILL CAN, win the MAC tourney this year. I just don't see them winning a game in the NCAA tournament quite yet.
