I noticed no discussion about the horrific disturbing news from PSU. Joe Pa knew about this and let Sandusky continue to bring boys to PSU.
Knew about it? Everything I've read is that he reported it immediately, hence why he wasnt indicted with the others.

Joe Pa should be fired. Telling an AD is not what should have been done. Joe Pa should have called 911 and had the police come to take Sandusky away in cuffs. As for the other AD officials, please see my note in this section on the sleaze that works in college athletics.

He allowed Sandusky to continue to bring boys to the camps after he fired him.

DeadspinThis is a truely awful story and this Deadspin article recaps the story. Very disturbing read. What a bunch of awful people still in charge at PSU. Paterno knew of crimes against children, didn't report them to the police...this may be a crime. Paterno needs to be investigated by the FBI since some of the crimes may have happened over state lines (also keeps the "locals" from looking past things) and possibly brought before a grand jury to explore criminal charges against him.

Altoona Newspaper ReportPaterno was looked by Grand Jury and nothing came of it. Still makes me wonder if he even followed up with the AD he told. Didn't he think it was strange a coach was caught having sex with a young boy in the team shower and the police never showed up to take away Sandusky? I'm looking forward to an FBI investigation into this matter. The state can't seem to get the job done.

From all I've read, Paterno did not know a coach was caught having sex with a young boy in the team shower. Paterno knew of a single allegation made by a third party. He did the right thing to report it to his athletic director with expectations that his athletic director would handle the situation appropriately. Something in the chain of command apparently broke down. The grand jury obviously believed after a thorough investigation that Paterno had done everything he was supposed to do in a situation like this. The details will all play out on Court TV.

When something like this happens, a person should not lose curiosity with the issue beyond telling his boss. It's not like he heard the guy was stealing pens from the supply cabinet.

And we don't know that Paterno did lose curiosity. He may have followed up and been told the matter had been investigated and resolved. All we've seen so far have been reports of a few details and not the whole story. Assuming the worst on insufficient data is always hazardous.
is there any other way on the internet?

Paterno released a statement yesterday that addresses some of the comments made in this thread:"If true, the nature and amount of charges made are very shocking to me and all Penn Staters. While I did what I was supposed to with the one charge brought to my attention, like anyone else involved I can't help but be deeply saddened these matters are alleged to have occurred."Sue and I have devoted our lives to helping young people reach their potential. The fact that someone we thought we knew might have harmed young people to this extent is deeply troubling. If this is true we were all fooled, along with scores of professionals trained in such things, and we grieve for the victims and their families. They are in our prayers."As my grand jury testimony stated, I was informed in 2002 by an assistant coach that he had witnessed an incident in the shower of our locker room facility. It was obvious that the witness was distraught over what he saw, but he at no time related to me the very specific actions contained in the Grand Jury report. Regardless, it was clear that the witness saw something inappropriate involving Mr. Sandusky. As Coach Sandusky was retired from our coaching staff at that time, I referred the matter to university administrators. "I understand that people are upset and angry, but let's be fair and let the legal process unfold. In the meantime I would ask all Penn Staters to continue to trust in what that name represents, continue to pursue their lives every day with high ideals and not let these events shake their beliefs nor who they are."

Prepared statement by someone else.
Which is totally irrelevant to the fact that the statement summarizes Paterno's testimony to the grand jury. By all publicly available evidence to this point, Paterno did nothing wrong.Buckzip, I know of all the people posting on this forum that you have shown the greatest concern over seeing a Big 10 coach unfairly accused of transgressions based on assumptions rather than clear and compelling evidence. :)

I would like to hear the almighty JoePa speak in his own words about this. This is disgusting. As for being unfairly accused. This is a whole lot worse than anything else we have discussed. There is evidence here and it is criminal.

I would think it's unanimous here that we'd all consider adults preying on vulnerable youths to be an especially heinous crime.I would think it's unanimous here that we'd all want to see everyone involved in any such activity be held accountable to the full extent of their involvement and guilt.I would think it's unanimous here that we'd all want to see no one punished in any way if they are innocent of doing anything wrong.

The witness was "obviously distraught," so JoePa didn't question him as to what had happened under the Penn State football banner? And who were the "university administrators" it was referred to, the secretary to the assistant sports information director, so he could say he reported it?

@ZippyRulz, in case you procrastinate on your homework, please allow me to assist you with this direct quote from the grand jury report:Joseph V. Paterno testified to receiving the graduate assistant's report at his home on a Saturday morning. Paterno testified that the graduate assistant was very upset. Paterno called Tim Curley ("Curley"), Penn State Athletic Director and Paterno's immediate superior, to his home the very next day, a Sunday, and reported to him that the graduate assistant had seen Jerry Sandusky in the Lasch Building showers fondling or doing something of a sexual nature to a young boy.But I'd suggest you take Zipmeister's advice and read the whole grand jury report, as it will probably answer other questions you might come up with.Guys, we have a lot of fun going back and forth on all kinds of subjects on ZN.o. But this one should not be taken lightly by anyone.

"It was obvious that the witness was distraught over what he saw, but he at no time related to me the very specific actions"According to JoePa's statement, he didn't follow through in finding out the severity of what had happened. And since the AD didn't follow through with the authorities, JP should have taken further action...not just wash his hands of the incident. But he will probably skate because of his esteemed position.
