I really thought Furman was going to upset Charlotte. Also surprising to see Wake Forest advancing over South Carolina.

Bobby, we did not have money on this, did we? :P I am in last place.

you didn't pick Akron all the way, your bracket's not looking good.

Could we have another scenario like last year - a final where the "jilted" school (Akron/UNC) gets to face their old coach (Lolla/Bolowich). Its a lot more fresh for UNC and they are not the upstarts, Creighton is, but I'd love to see that as a final. Ben Speas gets a title for two different schools, two years in a row?

EDIT: MDZip already covered the Creighton/UNC connection

Nice picture of former Zip Ben Speas on front of this MLSSoccer.com article --- http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011...-north-carolina? Ben has been getting a lot of press in UNC's post-season run.

Or Ben Speas somehow manages to lose 2 NCAA finals in the span of 3 years.

Seriously, that matchup is what I have on my bracket, but I have Creighton winning.

“Our mindset is UCLA, UCLA, UCLA"

And that's who I have playing Creighton Sunday afternoon. (I'll be rooting for the mid-major, as usual!)

Does anyone get a little angry any time you see him in the pictures on these articles being the UNC poster boy? Like, I know him leaving was a decision he and Porter supposedly agreed upon, but it still bothers me. He transferred out of the national championship team, which in my opinion means he should have had to go to a team that does not do as well, and look where they are and look where we're at. I don't care that Martin Ontiveros is at Furman, good for him! Likewise with McKaulay Tulloch at UCF, Yoram Mwila at VCU, Humpty Hitchens at JMU, Diego "one spring semester and out" Navarrete, and everyone else. I just still think we maybe could have used Ben this year, and that if he couldn't find time here, how did he find time at a school that did better than us this year?

That's the part I've been trying to figure out. Hard to believe Coach Porter miscalculated Speas' potential to contribute to this year's team, but it's possible. It could also have been that he didn't fit Porter's style of play, could have been that he left with a chip on his shoulder and used that as motivation to get better, could have been that whoever Porter pictured playing ahead of Speas this year just didn't live up to expectations, could have been any number of things that aren't obvious to anyone who wasn't part of the decision.

But the new recruiting class and thoughts of next year's team helps to erase memories of the guy from last year's team who may have made a difference this season but who "got away." What a great position to be in to "only" be a sweet 16 team after losing someone who might have made a difference.
