GoZips Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 Need a Zips sports fix? Come watch the Lady Zips Friday and Saturday nights. The Ladies are hosting a second round WNIT bracket. Detroit vs. Drexel at 5 PM. Lady Zips vs. Howard at 7:30 PM. Proof that the Ladies will be good this season: The infamous {Zip in Paradise) aka Z.I.P., posted that if the Ladies lost by 30 points or less against number two ranked Notre Dame, they will be the best team in the MAC. Well, the Ladies did lose to Notre Dame (81-61) by twenty. Notre Dame has more recently dispatched Indiana State 99-34 and Hartford 98-43. Point spreads of 65 and 55. Get the point? Our Lady Zips deserve our support. Hopefully a large contingent of AK-Rowdies make their presence known tonight. Quote
mes102 Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 First 125 students get in for free...after that, it's $4.00 with your zip card... I plan on being there for the second half of the Detroit-Drexel game, and for whole women's basketball game. Just wish I could have an outlet to hook my laptop up so I can get wireless (hopefully...lately won't let me...) so we can keep up on men's team tonight as well... Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 Looking like the same-old-same-old to me. Quote

Doug Snyder Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 Nice job winning the tourney in Seattle last night, Lady Zips!! Doesn't sound like the same-old-same-old to me. Go Zips. I will support the team and be there for many games Quote
Z.I.P. Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 I was sitting at the Stan Sheriff Center, watching Virginia (which just beat Tennesee last weekend!) getting hammered by Texas (down by 24 with >4 to play in the FIRST half), when I get a call from a friend in Seattle, telling me he's watching Akron's BB team -- I called his bluff, as they didn't play till Sat. vs Detroit and there was NO WAY it would be televised on the West Coast. "NO, NO. WOMEN's BASKETBALL!" he shouted. "They're playing Loyola Chicago here in Seattle!" So, according to Ramon, Akron trailed at the half, but was starting to hit three pointers (can you say "Taylor Ruper"?) and was back within a point early in the second half. I don't know why he didn't didn't call me back to tell me Akron won the tournament -- maybe because he's a Seattle fan! It looks as if Jody Kest has her team playing HER style of basketball -- and that means they're hitting on all cylinders with the talent at hand. When Kest was hired, I talked to Gavin Peterson, a local Hawaii coach (then at Idaho, now at U. of Hawaii) who got his first coaching job with Jody at TA&MCC about a decade ago, and he told me to expect to see a team that would run the ball when they get the opportunity, but would be fun for the fans to watch, because they would shoot the first open shot they get, even if it's well behind the 3-point line. I hope the team has turned the corner after a couple losses to no-name teams. Hopefully same-old is gone for good! Quote

GoZips Posted November 28, 2011 Author Report Posted November 28, 2011 The Ladies suffer from their old time nemesis ...namely turnovers. Quote
mes102 Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 Lady Zips have scored 266 points in last 3 games. That's about 89 points a game. Think about it. If you think this is the same old same old stuff, then obviously you haven't put the time in to watch at least one game, and your assumptions are just based off the box score... Quote
ZachTheZip Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 Zipsnation is depressed. Come watch coach Kest's team and solve that problem. I know where I'll be Saturday at 2:00, and it won't be the Wolstein Center. Florida State is coming to town and the Zips have a 4-game winning streak. Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted December 5, 2011 Report Posted December 5, 2011 i think i may be joining everyone going to the women's game instead of the men...at least they play with a little pride. Quote
mes102 Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 Lady Zips' opponents records to this point: Notre Dame(#3 in the nation): 7-1 Howard: 3-5 Drexel: 4-2 St. Francis(PA): 4-3 Loyola(Ill.): 4-3 Seattle: 4-4 Cleveland State: 3-4 St. Peter's: 0-5 Florida State: 4-5 Duquesne: 7-1 Youngstown State: 4-3 Robert Morris: 7-1 Providence: 4-4 Chicago State: 0-9 Miami(OH): 4-3 Bowling Green: 4-2 Buffalo: 2-6 Can't State: 1-5 Ohio: 3-4 Ball State: 4-4 Toledo: 5-2 Eastern Michigan: 5-2 Western Michigan: 1-5 Central Michigan: 2-5 Northern Illinois: 3-3 Quote

I know where I'll be Saturday at 2:00, and it won't be the Wolstein Center. Florida State is coming to town and the Zips have a 4-game winning streak. The Seminoles have three players from Northern Ohio (which accounts for the scheduling of this road game), including Cierra Bravard, who had no problem tossing away her promise to play for UA when the ACC came a-wooin'. Hope the Rowdies will "welcome" her in their best fashion. Also, for those unfamiliar, Coach Sue Semrau I believe holds the NCAA record for technical fouls collected in a year, and possibly all-time among women's coaches. Her personality -- and not-so-great-won-loss-record -- was reportedly why USC canned her in her last position. See if you can make her get hot under her collar. Go Zips!!! Quote
