Ianello G-O-N-E!?

It shouldn't even be a question of "if" this is going to happen but "when" it will happen. If TW honesty thinks it is a good idea to keep around a guy who will only win 1 game next year (if he's lucky) he would also deserve to be fired. I just don't see how anyone with a brain can think that having 100 people at our games next year will benefit the University, and how it is logical to keep a guy around who's causing this school to lose MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars!!

I didn't want to be the first to say it. But since it has now reached the infallible world of Twitter, I'll add that while I'm hearing mixed responses from a number of private sources, the consensus seems to be that Ianello gets one more year to prove whether or not he can turn the program around.

If the original Football Scoop rumor was wrong, the best explanation I've heard is that Football Scoop's source at UA heard Tuesday morning that Ianello's regular Tuesday press conference was cancelled, and interpreted that to mean that he was being fired without knowing that the real reason was the passing of Ianello's mother earlier Tuesday. Note that there have been no new media rumors citing any new sources, but only vague references to the original Football Scoop rumor.

But none of my sources know anything with 100% certainty. It's still all speculation, even though some are a little closer to the situation than others. So continue to take everything you hear with a grain of salt and wait for Tuesday.

RIP Akron Football

If Ianello is not fired, the fans should hold a rally in the area outside Buchtel Hall and show both the President and TW that we have all had enough and want Ianello Gone. If anyone is going to the basketball game like myself tonight, anyone that sees TW or George Van Horn should express our feelings about the Ianello. I think if enough fans show what will be lost by keeping him, the right decision will be made.

Jeremy Guy (MAC Director of Communications) reporting Ianello is GONE.

https://twitter.com/JGuyMAC

"Rob Ianello Will Not Return as Akron Football Coach #MACFootball"

"A national search for Ianello’s replacement will be conducted immediately. #GoZips #MACFootball"

This is very promising!

I agree, but this is really bad form for the conference communications guy to comment on before the university has made an official announcement.

It would be very easy for TW to just issue a statement to the press that RI will be back. That's usually what the AD would be expected to do in a situation like this if the coach was coming back. He hasn't.

One reason I can think of NOT to pull the trigger is to show whoever is the next coach that he will get a minimum of three years to turn things around.

I do not recall any college coach getting canned after two years because of a bad record. That being said, I do not believe that any coach has ever had as disastrous a first two years as we have been subjected to. Ever.
