It would be very easy for TW to just issue a statement to the press that RI will be back. That's usually what the AD would be expected to do in a situation like this if the coach was coming back. He hasn't.

One reason I can think of NOT to pull the trigger is to show whoever is the next coach that he will get a minimum of three years to turn things around.

I do not recall any college coach getting canned after two years because of a bad record. That being said, I do not believe that any coach has ever had as disastrous a first two years as we have been subjected to. Ever.

Live in the past much?

Things happen fast!

I'm hearing this decision was not made by Tom Wistrcill, but from the upper upper people. Hid job might be in jeopardy after Akron's soccer season is over. Because the Zips are heading to the national championship, Tom's got a couple more weeks left.

I'm fine with the decision. But the timing stinks. I could not imagine UA officially announcing this prior to Coach Ianello's mother's funeral on Monday. But that's just me. It's a tough business. Everyone else feel free to party.

This all came after that twitter post saying he wasn't going to be fired, I think they were worried about some very angry Zips fan going crazy tonight. I understand the sentimental part regarding Rob and his situation, but they did the right thing for us Zips fans. I seriously was going crazy over this.

i understand being respectful, but in this business making the decision and announcement as quickly as possible is better for all parties involved. Its simply the nature of the game and I am sure Rob knows that. Its just epicly unfortunate that his mother's death came at the end of the season and its just better for Rob to move forward with the grieving processes without the stress over whether he'll have a job.

Yeah OSU sucks and good thing Michigan beat them up today

I'm a jealous failure.

I wish I was an OSU fan

Lol. I knew this would start with the obsession. Good for scUM. At home they beat their rival with a lb coach as their hc, kicked out heisman candidate qb, all the off the field issues, and their worst season in decades by 6 points. Lol again.

Next season starts a new era and the streak will start over,

I didn't want to be the first to say it. But since it has now reached the infallible world of Twitter, I'll add that while I'm hearing mixed responses from a number of private sources, the consensus seems to be that Ianello gets one more year to prove whether or not he can turn the program around. But none of my sources know anything with 100% certainty. It's still all speculation, even though some are a little closer to the situation than others.

Keep us posted.

WOW! The Beacon has not even reported this yet! Shows how much they care.

they're more concerned about the Urban Meyers to OSU rumors.

Thats part of the reason the Akron football is in the state that it is in. Fans and the media are more interested in OSU. Always have been, always will be. Its called front running.

Sad but true. All the local media cares and talks about is a university that is in the southern part of the state. Basically they say screw you to the colleges that are local.

Just a suggestion, but you may want to invest in a map.

I think that there were a sizable number of people who didn't think Proenza would pull the plug on Ianello this year. I thought it would be another year because of mone not because Ianello deserved another. Proenza has reached despararation to do this now. He has to make some sort of a splash with the next hire or the program becomes moribund.

Anybody know what names were recommended when Ianello was hired?

One of my sources heard it directly from Dr. Proenza's mouth that he wanted to give Ianello another year. But that was a few weeks ago before the last embarassing losses. That's why I added a statement at the end of my post that ZipRoo somehow left out:
