The Lady Zips are on a 4 game winning streak. They are playing a style of basketball that most ZN.o posters would drool over right now. They've scored 97, 85, 84, and 87 points respectively in their last 4 games. On the other hand, the men's team is struggling.

So my question is since both teams play at the same time within an hour of each other, who will you go see this saturday? If you pick men's over the women's team, I would love to hear your reasoning on it, and what you think the Lady Zips season will be like this year...

People are voting for Cleveland State...but no reasoning...would you rather go watch pathetic, out of sync, boring basketball than watch up tempo, non-stop full court pressure, and a team that has been scoring on average of 88 points a game the past 4 games? Sounds like a no-brainer to me.This Lady Zips team is finally clicking.

Also, everyone keeps complaining how we can't get a big school to the JAR. Well, women's basketball did bring an ACC team to the JAR in Florida State this year. And you want to go to a game where we might lose by 30+ in Cleveland?

I just don't understand the logic of your guys' continue bashing of the basketball program, but you're still going to their games. Everything the women are doing is what you want the men to do. So why not show them some support?

Unless you're just that type of person that judges and feels women should have no part of sports...which is the theory I'm sticking to....

Just don't understand about it though. It's still the sport of basketball. And the Lady Zips are playing the style most of you would love to see the men's team play.

Let me ask this question:

IF the Lady Zips game was moved to later on in the day(say 7:00pm tipoff), would you go see the Lady Zips after the Akron-Cleveland State game in the afternoon?

I voted for the Ladies. And I know you are aware that I go to the women's events. I missed this last Saturday because I ended up going to a wake for a friend in Massillon. But I will be there at all the remaining games before we return to Bali. Having written that....even though I have an interest in the women's sports, my # one love is MEN's college basketball. Even though I played baseball and football and SUCKED at basketball....I find college basketball the most exciting to watch and follow. Men’s football and soccer follow. That does not mean I am slighting the women's sports...I am not. I think women’s volleyball and tennis or far more exciting than the men's. Many men (especially older men) do not have much interest in women’s' sports. There was very little women’s sports 20-30 years ago. And if you don't have sisters or daughters playing, there was never any reason to get interested. So...in summary...give the guys on the board a hall pass on this issue. Many have no interest or reason to have interest in women sports. Interest will grow slowly as a result of sisters and daughters playing the sport. If you can get students to Zips sporting events you will be the first to do so and probably hired by the administration in a NY minute.

I agree. Love men's college basketball too. The last line in my first post in this thread was geared towards the younger generation. I couldn't believe how much I've heard of that mentality this year from students. I'm aware the majority of ZN.o posters are not in the younger generation percentile ;)

I've been to all but one women's game. I'm going to the men's game though. It's a big game. You should have seen the atmosphere at the CSU-Cant game it was electric. Should still be a good game. I have faith. I'm a fan in the good times and the bad. I don't give up just because they have dropped a few games and everyone is crying failure. Thats what being a Zips fan is. Stop comparing the two teams and acting like everyone should give up on the men and support the women.

+1 I expected the men to struggle early on with all the new parts coming in. I think the MSU victory got all of us a little too excited and made our expectations a bit unrealistic. This team has crazy potential. Hopefully that is shown Saturday. I know I'll be in Cleveland.

Also, it's not a competition between the men and the women. The ladies aren't going to draw as well as the men, because that's the way our culture is. Men's sports outdraw women's everywhere, not just in Akron. I wish the ladies all the best and hope they can beat FSU this Saturday!

Here's the point I'm trying to make:

Our women's team is playing an ACC opponent(ranked 30th in the country right now) at the JAR. Men's basketball is playing arguably one of our arch-rivals in Cleveland State at the Wolstein Center. It's poor scheduling in my opinion. If Wistrcill and the rest of the assistant directors were smart, they would of changed the time of the Florida State game to 7:00pm so that people wanting to go to both games, could go to both games.

Just out of curiosity, how many people would go to Cleveland State game in afternoon, and then the Florida State game that night if the Lady Zips game got changed to the evening? Just wondering how much money UA could lose there with the scheduling mistake...

I never was trying to compare both teams as in performance on the court. Because women's basketball is very different from men's basketball in tempo/speed of the game. What I was trying to do is see how many people would still go to Cleveland to watch the game even if the Lady Zips were playing very well and our men's team was not.

I just wonder what this forum would be like right now if the men's team had a four game winning streak with scoring total points of 97, 85, 84, and 87...Hopefully the men's team starts clicking this saturday...

But seriously, you can mark this down as another little mistake Wistrcill has made while being at Akron...this is just a minor one, but still losing UA money...

I'll be honest, I haven't been to many women's game. That said, if the games were at different times I would have made an effort to go to both.

Well, let's see. The women's NCAA volleyball regional on Saturday night drew 8600 to Stan Sheriff Center in town. The Hawaii men's team is lucky if they can draw 1/4 that total. But then again, I've been in the house when it was packed with over 10K for the volleyball (men) Warriors. Now THAT's a fun atmosphere!

p.s.: Doug, Have a safe trip back to the Land of the Gods. Do you surf Legian? That's a left break, isn't it?
