skip-zip
I'm afraid that probably takes Campbell off the board. If Toledo thinks enough of him to give him the interim title, he's one step closer to being named their next coach. And with a Bowl Game coming up, how do you even lure him away to convince him to come here?

And with a Bowl Game coming up, how do you even lure him away to convince him to come here? Yep...he is gone. Will be next Toledo coach. Good for him. I think he has way better chance for success there. The lack of HC experiance will not be as great as he will keep many of the staff. And all he has to do is tweak the schedule to fit is ideas. I am happy for him. I think the MAC is on the upswing.

And UA is not only the perfect fit for Paul Winters, but Paul Winters is probably the perfect person for UA's program - local guy, AKRON guy, offensive minded, passionate about the U, passionate about Akron, will recruit locally, experience in the MAC, experience recruiting MAC-level talent. It sounds like a 4-way win for UT, UA, Matt Campbell & Paul Winters. Go Zips!
g-mann17
But Matt if UT screws you over, there is a very nice OC job available for you at the University of Akron.

ZippyRulz
A practice interview never hurt anyone I suppose. Has MJ seen our new facilities? I like the way he communicates, from the video that was posted upthread.

With interim HC Mike Johnson getting bypassed, does this possibly cause him to consider Akron more seriously? I'd guess he is considering it as seriously as he normally would. The reason why I put it that way was because of the reports that he was fine with talking to UA, but not really interested in the position. I don't have any sources to cite for this, just the conversation that has taken place on ZNO. I'm merely speculating that he may have thought he had a shot at the UCLA HC job when he (supposedy) conveyed that he wasn't really interested in the UA job. Doug Snyder
UCLA hires Jim Mora Jr as HC. With interim HC Mike Johnson getting bypassed, does this possibly cause him to consider Akron more seriously? I still prefer Paul Winters. Look at the history of pro guys stepping back to college...not very good...unless you think Mike Sherman did a bang up job...and he is still available. I predict that within 5 years we will be the class of the MAC and competing for the MAC title within 3 with PW in charge.

Given those three names, I think the best coach for Akron has to be Mike Johnson. He has the most coaching ties, and has the diversity of playing as a professional. Coaching on the west coast doesn't hurt either for recruiting the big name JUCO transfers.

There are way too many instances of "great" BCS coordinators falling on their face once they take over a program that can't sell recruits on BCS bowls and 80,000+ crowds. g-mann17
If WSU wins the whole thing you have to give it to Winters. His team just barely got in, and have found ways to beat superior programs. That is what we need as a coach. Even without that though it will be hard not to say Winters hands down. Narduzzi spent four years coaching in the MAC before his current time at MSU. And before the MAC he coached at FCS Rhode Island and played at YSU. He's not one of those guys who spend their entire career in the BCS and then come to a non-BCS thinking they know everything and then fail due to culture shock. He interviewed for the Illinois job. Winters Like to shuffle this just a bit. 1. unnamed candidate -- if he is who I think he is. Most of you will be very pleased. 2. Narduzzi -- excellent choice. 3. Johnson -- long shot, a really long shot 4. Winters -- now revealing why I place excellent coach Winters here. Moderator Edit: We WILL NOT have this type of activity here. He shouldn't even be on the list... Being an assistant at Toledo is enough reason not to consider a guy.
