Tired of all these schools hiring around us while we sit on our hands. At least announce a short list or something.

I don't think the candidates with current jobs would appreciate being on an announced short list.

Either way we need to move faster as we are getting passed every day in the coaching carousel.

Agreed. That's the HUGE disadvantage of possibly going after coach who is involved with a playoff system. Who knows, if UA wasn't considering someone like Winters, maybe they could have gone ahead and signed Campbell before Beckman gets picked up by Illinois. This is crazy stuff.

I strongly disagree. It's better to wait a few days or weeks to make the right hire than to be hasty and get the wrong person. The former is the only way to break the vicious cycle whereas the latter costs us years and a lot of money. The wise thing to do is be patient and make the right move whether that be days or a couple weeks from now. In the short-term, this program is not going to be very good regardless of what kind of class is brought in this year.

But what if we're waiting only because of a technicality? We can't really talk to Winters until he is done coaching. But what if, in the mean time, we're just twiddling our thumbs waiting for him to finish his season and not seriously looking at any candidates? What if we're not making a full effort to evaluate other candidates during the time we're forced to wait?

Can we kind of talk to him sooner?

Who is forcing us to wait?

We have to be honest with ourselves as well...we are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to D1 job openings. Chances are very slim that someone thought to to in line for an Illinois or UCLA is going to be sitting by the phone for Akron's call. Not saying there isn't strong interest, especially by guys trying to get their first shot at a job, but like in recruiting, schools like Akron come second.

I'm for a more thorough search of good candidates, regardless of what division they coach in.

I don't know where that came from either.

I know that the process is well, well, well underway. But, I can't say whether we're "waiting" to talk to anyone.

I hear Paul Winters is our man and he'll be announced the second tuesday of next week.

Where do you guys get this information?

Dr. Suess. He's in the english department.

I'm not being a smart ass. It's a sincere question. There are a few people who seemingly have inside info. Where's this come from? Acquaintances in the athletic department? Local businessmen who are involved? Is this student talk from the Student Union? Hints from GA's?

Past experience suggests that some inside information comes from inside someone's large intestine. :)

Real inside information usually comes from co-workers, family or friends. However, there can be huge variations in exactly how close one of those people is to a situation. Some people who are semi-close may be sincere in giving their best estimate based on what they heard third-hand, while others may have actually sat in meetings where key details were discussed. It's hard to tell what's accurate without knowing exactly who the source is. And, of course, no one wants to reveal their sources because then they'd be cut off from future leaks.

I was going for a satire type post. If you re read it you will see it. I imagine you saw "Paul Winters is our guy" and missed the last part that makes my statement total bs. Of course it isn't funny if you have to explain it  You'll have to forgive me, I'm in the middle of a very boring 12 hour shift.

As a student in the English department, I would like to note that there is no Dr. Suess. But really, I am amazed that the English department was ever mentioned on Zips Nation.

:rock::lol:

Dumb question here. Would Winters have an "Agent" like Urban Meyer supposedly had an "Agent"? Are we just playing the same game OSU did?

It's Dr. Seuss, not SUESS. Good grief.

No way that a coach who is still active in the playoffs is taking time away from game prep to interview for a job. The fact that Akron has not announced a new head coach is proof that they are waiting to speak with Winters, which could be as early as Sunday or as late as December 18 - the day after the D2 national championship game.

The group handling the search is led by former Vanderbilt, Washington, and NC State AD Todd Turner.

Collegiate Sports Associates is a new but growing name in intercollegiate athletics. We are in this business at the urging of College and University Presidents and Athletics Directors from around the country. CSA Founder and President, Todd Turner, was formerly President of ISP Sports' (now IMG College) Division of Consulting and Executive Search and has over thirty years of experience in intercollegiate athletics, twenty-one of which were as the AD at four major NCAA Division I FBS/BCS institutions. The absence of CSA’s on-campus perspective among the more traditional consulting and search firms has been a concern for many Presidents and AD’s.

Mr. Turner’s experience in managing four major NCAA Division I FBS/BCS athletics programs has given him a profound understanding of the differences in culture that exist on campuses around the nation. Having personally managed four major athletics department transitions during his career, his experience is unmatched when it comes to assisting university leaders in addressing current issues in athletics that challenge today’s university.

While relatively new to the formal title of “Executive Search Professional”, Mr. Turner clearly has the experience required to set a new standard for executive searches in intercollegiate athletics. During his career in athletics Mr. Turner has hired dozens of senior administrators and coaches. Unlike his search executive peers, he has then mentored and developed his hires with noteworthy success. As an example, fifteen of his former associates have gone on to become Athletics Directors at Division I institutions.
