GP1
Since we entered D1, the HC position at Akron has been a springboard to a lower division or out of coaching altogether. I coined the phrase, "The Graveyard of Coaches" a couple of years ago. Not exactly true today, but it was then. Dennison never sniffed even a 1AA job....Faust, enough said....Ownes, Ashland. It deserved the phrase. Howevere, Brookhart and now Coach I are in D-1A programs. No longer the graveyard in my mind, but still not the best of career choices. http://buckeyefansonly.com/woody/ See paragraph 5. I did not think you were that old. But if you say you coined the phase...who am I to say you are fibbing. I'm missing something... oops paragraph 7 I'm really trying to be patient with you Doug. Your writing style is bad enough to make me not want read your posts. Now, a counting problem really has me questioning why I don't employ the Ignore button for the first time. Buckzip
GP1, just a quick question. Have you ever thought it is you and not everyone else that has the problem? In case you are wondering what I am talking about, I have now seen a few different times you have mentioned that posters need to learn reading comprehension. I have also seen you criticize other peoples posting style. Perhaps the reason that you feel so many others need reading comprehension classes is because you aren't nearly as smart as you think you are and maybe, just maybe, some of your posts don't make as much sense typed out as they do in your head when you think them up. JMHO.

Dave in Green
Before taking credit for coining a new phrase, it always pays to run the phrase through a Google search. For example, someone could rightfully take credit for coining the following phrase because it gets no hits in a Google search: "The Graveyard of Plagiarists." If George Costanza can coin the phrase "Pardon my French", The Great GP1 can coin the phrase "The Graveyard of Coaches". I have to go powerwash my deck now so I can stain it tomorrow. Thank you and have a nice day.

skip-zip
Come on. Not only did he look lost, but he also failed to identify who clearly was his top QB until mid-season. A few suspensions still left them with more talent than most teams they faced this year, yet he "led" that talent to a 6-6 record. He almost lost to a MAC team, almost lost to Indiana, got blown out by a bad Miami team, and showed what he accomplished during the course of the season by finishing the season with 3 consecutive losses, including Purdue. They plummeted from a #17 ranking to not getting a single Top-25 vote during the course of his run as coach. If this was an "audition", it certainly didn't go well, to say the least. How did he look lost? The suspensions didn't hurt Luke, Pryor going to the NFL did. Pryor makes OSU three games better last year. This is a good chance to move the conversation to the Zips. If the next coach does not get a QB who can be successful in his offense, we will see more of the same from the Zips. Pryor was already long gone when they got ranked #17, and faded into obscurity as the season progressed, and finished it off for good with a 3 game losing streak to close. Because his tenure was so short, I have to look at how the team progressed under his leadership during the course of the season. And the way that they fell from Top-20 to getting no respect at all from any coaches or writers is impossible to overlook.

ZachTheZip
Fickell and the rest of the OSU staff will learn of their punishment today. "Based on precedent, Tressel will likely receive a “show-cause” charge, meaning any university wishing to hire him will need to make a strong case to the NCAA." How's this for a "strong case to the NCAA": Literally nobody else is willing to coach for us. Think it would fly?

bobbyake
OSU gets bowl ban in 2012 and reduced schollys. JT gets a 5 year "show cause" order. "Under a show-cause order, any school that hired Tressel would have to present its case for why it needed to employ him, and would risk severe penalties if he were to commit any further infractions after that." So anyone that hires him takes a huge risk. In our situation, it's well worth the gamble. Too bad he's not in play anymore.

ZachTheZip
The length of the show cause doesn't mean as much as the terms of the penalty. What penalties does it come with should a team try to hire him? So long as it's not a post-season ban, there's not much the NCAA could do that would negatively affect the Zips situation. Loss of scholarships? We're already under the imit more than the sanctions would be. Loss of recruiting contact? His name does the recruiting for him. ZipRoo
Unfortunately, I don't believe Tressel's ego, which is larger than he lets on, would allow him to take this job. No, he's looking for a high-profile gig, and I believe he will land in the pros. Good ol' boys network takes care of their own, especially one who has stocked the NFL with so many talented players. MDZip
Interesting story in the PD about Luke Fickell wanting to become a head coach again. This statement in the story is why I included it on a Zips board. A grad assistant at Ohio State in 1999 after playing defensive line for the Buckeyes from 1992 to 1996, Fickell's first full-time job was at Akron in 2000 and 2001 as defensive line coach. He remembers assistants who worked there without moving their families. He wondered then how the players could believe in coaches that acted like they didn't want to be there.
