johnnyzip84
Well, now I at least hope we wind up with someone who advocates the spread offense. I still saw a lot of the same offset I power formations in watching Wayne St in the playoffs. Not sure how well that will work in the MAC in 2012. And I also hope that grin doesn't freeze on skip-zip's face. And I also hope CK recovers well from that 440 V jolt Onward!
Big Zip
I don't think a reworked deal with Wayne State is a reason to say he isn't taking the job. Look at the history of successful coaches they all rework their deal in the MAC and then are gone before you know it. Think basketball. Paul would be stupide not to take the opportunity to rework his deal...the Akron deal isn't guaranteed.

Akron officials drove to Detroit on Sunday night to meet with Winters, and they offered him a contract. Winters thought about the Division I offer overnight, but told Wayne State athletic director Rob Fournier on Monday morning that he was staying with the team. Captain Kangaroo
Twitter Tom botches up yet another one. Wow. He couldn't sell a Akron alum, D-II coach to lead the Zips. How many weeks did he have to prepare for this?
xu9697
Wow. Big-time bummer. Back to "on-the-job training" coach. Ugh.
akronad
I not only blame TW, but I also give Rob Fournier a lot of credit. Rob has much knowledge of Akron from an administrative point of view and more than likely relayed that information to PW.

Probably should have canned him first and relied on a UA search team.
Class of 82
Twitter Tom botches up yet another one. He couldn't sell a D-II coach and Akron alum to coach the Zips. Wow. Truly disappointing. Devastating, even. I agree about TW, but I'm not letting Dr. Proenza off the hook, either. I love that man, but he's not without some responsibility in all this. For God's sake. This isn't just your run-of-the mill coaching search. We're on the verge of totally blowing a $70-million investment, and the president needs to play a leadership role here. RowdyZip
Lets make it a little easier on ourselves. We can fill the AD and HC positions simultaneously. We've had so much success so far...
akronad
Just posted on footballscoop. Akron: We hear that Wayne State head coach Paul Winters has agreed to a significant extension that will keep him at Wayne State. We have not checked with our sources today; but we have to believe this means Scot Loeffler will be the next head coach at Akron.

Loeffler doesn't make me mad, but now he knows for sure he was number 2 on the list, what's to say he doesn't turn it down? Plus what kind of awful offer did they make to Winters? johnnyzip84
Okay, I give up. Who's Scot Loeffler? Temple OC (first year), and also a Barberton native. Bio
ZachTheZip
Well, it's a good thing we waited two extra weeks without really looking for anybody else, then. Way to go, Wistrcill. You got caught up in the PW crap that's been spewed all over recently and it cost you big time. We should have had a coach long before the D-II playoffs were over. Winters no doubt looked at him, then looked over at the highly-respected and class act Rob Fournier...and said: Boys, you wasted your gas money on this trip. Proenza is culpable, in that HE ALONE wanted Tom Wistrcill here. The selection committee for the AD did NOT. I have that on first-hand authority. Therefore, Proenza and Wistrcill SHARE the blame in this entire fiasco. They'd better pull a rabbit out of their collective butts on this one, or both of their heads should roll. Time to let someone with some athletic expertise take charge.

Is there specific info that MJ is off the board now? That would be a shame, because I just spoke with DJ (Derron Johnson), his receiver-combo from 1987-88 to let him know he would be getting the WR coaching job! DJ is now back home again coaching the boys basketball team at Kahuku HS. He won the state title last year in his first year back since he coached bb in the early 90s. He was HC of Kailua and Kaimuki HS football on O'ahu from the mid-90s to mid 2000s, if anyone's looking for an island pipeline.
