K92
Do any of you think that Vince Okruch could be the next defensive coordinator? How would you feel about that? I know it has been discussed in the past with quite a bit of board support, but a lot has changed in the meantime.
Lance1969
For those that posted early about the West Virginia connection ,Congrats! I'll hire my brother and now it looks like my son-in-law, heck in this recession good jobs are hard to find . Need to have my daughter's husband with a good D1 job. Tanks Buddy
How about some input from someone that knows the guys headed your way? As a UNA/Auburn fan/booster of both, you're getting some good southern fella's. Alan Arrington (Tank) is high energy and knows how to motivate. Think he'll be listed as the OC, even though CTB will call most of the plays during the game. They get along well, and Tank was the OC at UNA when CTB was hired 3 years ago. Recruits well, and has some excellent pipelines to JC's. Some of his motivational speeches might be a bit colorful, so if you don't like to hear it, then don't sit in the first 30 rows. AJ Milwee, great kid, great family. His Aw Shucks demeanor is fantastic. He could really play, and if he's half the coach that I think he'll be, you're in for a great surprise. Jeff Bowden is probably the least known of the coaching Bowden's, and will do well with the WR's. Probably the most "hillbilly" of the bunch, but a heck of a nice guy. You'll catch him riding around in his 1972 Chevy pickup without AC all the time There are a couple more rumored to be headed that way, not sure if any of the rest are "official" yet. Saw John Pont's name mentioned a post or two back, have met him and talked at length. Seemed like a great kid with good coaching lineage. Was only at UNA briefly before having a chance to head to Miami late last summer. Let's not leave out Bobby. If he's in town and you have a chance to meet him, do it. Outstanding coach, outstanding man. Had the pleasure of spending some quality time with him away from the public, and he's just like your favorite uncle (or dad or granddad). Hate to know that he won't be in/around North Alabama as much now. Dadgummit.
ZachTheZip
Footballscoop.com - Akron: We hear Terry Bowden has offered the defensive coordinator job to Chuck Amato. John Pont (Miami Ohio defensive intern / linebackers) will have a spot on the staff and we hear Ben Murphy, director of football operations at North Alabama, will serve as his director of football operations. Chuck the Chest!
KentZip
Beat me to it by 15 minutes Zach Let the jokes begin. Between Bowden and Amato, if this doesn't elevate the level of expectations, I don't know what will. Amato also likely brings recruiting ties that could help us in our last minute bid for a respectable class.

As I recall Amato is very much against those types of players LOL.

Chuck the Chest! Amato was a great D Coordinator at FSU. He's one of those guys that is a great coordinator, but not so much at being head coach. I like this hire if it happens. ZipRoo
As much as we enjoyed poking Amato after that improbable, controversial upset years ago, and Chuck's non-qualifiers comments, I know we'd all be THRILLED to have him here. The man can coach, is a respected name in D-1 college football.....and he'd give the UA sports marketing dept. a GREAT tie-in. Every Zip fan must wear those ultra-dark, thin, wrap-around sunglasses. g-mann17
I hope Amato does come to be our d-coordinator. Huge asset, he's from PA so he knows our recruiting area. He is creative on defense, and a fire starter. Which is exactly how Bowden described what he wants out of a DC. But the fun poking won't stop till he gets here. If you can't beat the Zips, might as well join them Chuck.

Jalapeño Zippy
just another person confirming the Amato job offering @headaviatorrowdie last night you said you saw Tressel near Tommy Evans Lounge talking to Bowden about being UA's recruiting coordinator. I just saw him today on the 3rd floor of the Union near the Board of Trustees Office, lol Amato would be great. Hope he comes here.

ZachTheZip
It makes sense that the DC job would be offered to somebody who can run a team. Bowden pretty much said that the D will be autonomous under the DC while the HC works with the offense. Amato is perfect for that. Its easier to bring in a good coordinator when they know they won't be constantly micromanaged like a certain previous head coach liked to do to his staff. More coaching splashes coming your way soon, I promise Tank, do you think there are any UNA PLAYERS who could play at Akron? Might they be headed Noth, too? I doubt any would even consider it as they would have to sit a year. UNA usually has a bunch of top flight guys that can play in a lot of places. The big name transfers for the last few years certainly could have. We have had fifth year guys that were SEC and ACC starters finish up here. I think they will recruit heavy JUCO this year, and then try to normalize. It is possible that some of the JUCO guys they have already spoken with might get offers, just wait till the end if the quiet period to see how many are MS and TX kids. It is possible that some of the JUCO guys they have already spoken with might get offers, just wait till the end if the quiet period to see how many are MS and TX kids Let me stop drinking the Bowden Kool Aide for a 2nd and digest this posting. For going after JUCO kids this year realize this staff has extensive contacts with JUCO Coaches, reality is December 21st as come and gone which means 99% of the JUCO players have signed with FBS,FCS and Div2 schools. What is left is players who still have grade issuses or those that no other D1 (perhaps D2) wanted. Let me guess this staff will find the sleepers. While I put the Kool Aide down I am also less then thrilled about hiring an Assistant Coach who never played /coached the game of football till he started to date a Bowden. I guess one is qualified to Coach at D1 if you were an"intern" coach at a school were your Grandfather was a legend and then your father in law gets a Head Coaching job. As to better then last year staff.

MDZip
just another person confirming the Amato job offering Would be kind of ironic if he ended up in Akron. Wonder if he would know how to coach non-qualifiers?

johnnyzip84
According to coaching search Terrell Buckley will have a position at Akron. Wiki says he's currently the assistant strength & conditioning coach at FSU. I wonder if he'll be the head S&C coach here or work in another capacity.
