zipboy
Things going through my head . . .1. Joyce may be one of the 5 smartest players that I have ever seen.2. I like running Dials at the point for parts of the game. Joyce gets some rest at SG and gets more looks. Right now he is a better scorer than Nick.3. Last week was the first one where I did not notice a limp from Dials. Looks to be getting stronger.4. How come the sound guy has a Chris Hahn throwback jersey?5. Interesting that Terry Pluto credits Lee Owens for his recruiting and how he was such a part of the football championship along with JD but yet never mentions Dan Hipsher and gives all credit to Dambrot. You can disagree or agree but I do find it odd his different slants.6. I enjoyed Gaffney's article last week on attendance. I agreed that the ABJ should not be a schill for the U. I look at Livingston's article in the PD this week as one I disagreed a lot with but it caused discussion. I don't expect the Beacon to be a love fest for Akron. But I do expect coverage a Div 1 team deserves. Last week we were playing to stay in 1st place at EMU, a short 3 hour drive. How come Gaffney was not at the game as the Zip beat writer? I also don't blame the Beacon for attendance this year. At this point, it should not matter if they write about us or not. Anyone with a brain should be at the JAR.7. OU in free fall, Can't in OT after a freaking comeback, less than a month until March madness. Fear the Roo!
zip37
Hipsher could't coach a turtle to hide in his/her shell, much less coach a Div I team, he might be a good #2 man, but not a #1. LO was only slightly better. INHO.WBALAL .
RowdyZip
Rather than make a new thread, I'll continue on with some random thoughts as I watch the Cavs in double OT @ the Celtics. Dru Joyce more and more reminds me of Eric Snow. And not only the line...6pt, 7reb, 7ast, but just being undersized, with great court vision while still staying relatively under the radar for an entire career, despite being a solid player. Thoughts?

zippyrifle32
"We feel like a stepchild to Can't.'' Romeo Travis good to see you again a-holio. yeah i kinda like that quotation, meaning that we don't get the recognition we deserve even though we're better. zipper
5. zipper
6. I enjoyed Gaffney's article last week on attendance. I agreed that the ABJ should not be a schill for the U. But I do expect coverage a Div 1 team deserves. The Beacon is so confused on this it is laughable. No, it's not their job to promote Akron, but they fall down on the job in not emphasizing it. The Beacon powers-that-be proclaim they're supporters of downtown, the city of Akron, etc., yet they don't emphasize not just D1 basketball downtown, but WINNING D1 basketball right down the street. Honestly, they just don't get it, and can't understand the benefit to them. I don't even know what to say on this anymore.
ZipAnalyst
Thank you Zipper for making the religious connection. It makes sense to me. While I like to read some of the stuff Pluto writes about, I know he also writes a religous column. One of the terrific things about ZipsNation contributors is the wide ranging information and contacts they have. But for Zipper's connection I would not have known about the LO/Pluto background. Obviously, it's okay for Pluto to have an opinion on anyone including LO but he ought to let the readers know about "out of the public view" factors that may influence his opinion.I could never understand why LO held on as long as he did at Akron. The ABJ was as the forefront of championing "one more year" for LO. Maybe? Zipper's point explains it all!
Marty McFly
Zippyriffle:I think that is ok with Romeo saying that, but I have to say that it is a correct in statement until Akron first of all beats Can't State, then the flushers are the better team traditionally in the MAC. Second of all, Akron needs to get to at least the MAC Title game before any recognition should be received by Akron. Third of all, they need to beat Nevada before any national recognization should be garnered. Outside of MAC play, they only have the San Jaun Shootout and Duquesne. A win at Nevada tomorrow night will go along way.It kills me to say this, but it the truth. (And yes, I am an Akron Zips fan!)
Blue & Gold
I agree with Zipper's comment regarding the ABJ just not grasping the potentially HUGE benefit of a successful Zips athletics program to them as a publication. It's absolutely perplexing to me. It is just a no-brainer concept that a newspaper naturally cover and emphasize coverage of a D-I college in your own city. I'm with Zipper in seeing that their lack of coverage is just wrong and non-sensical on so many levels that one just doesn't even know what to think or say. zen
The ABJ probaby hired some lightweight marketing firm to do new-method sampling and focus group surveys, who ended up telling them that they need to appeal to semi-urban soccer moms between 28.3 and 34.7 with medium auburn hair and 1.53 children. FearTheRoo
"We feel like a stepchild to Can't.'' Romeo Travis Every once in a while AG sticks his ugly 'head' in here and says something so profoundly stupid that he reminds us how sports-ignorant he is. AG, thanks for consistently reapeating the only quote you have to hang onto since your team won't hang onto first place.Man, if feels good, doesn't it Zips fans??!!! :macc:
