Zipgrad01
My brother in law lives in Raliegh and I guess sports talk radio discussed the Zips for about 10 minutes last night. I guess many of the people down there are still upset about Amato being released from NC State. He said they were calling Akron the "FSU of the north". He also said they interviewed Danny Kanell on the show. I guess Danny spoke with Tommy Bowden at the Orange Bowl about the new Zips regime and jokingly said that he should join the staff in some capacity, maybe as the recruiting coordinator. He said Bowden's face got all serious and he said "I would love to do that". He also said people in Raliegh were stopping him in the grocery store last night to discuss the hires. He was wearing an Akron fleece. Funny how we went from nobodies to the talk of the town in a matter of days. I can't imagine what some wins would do if those got tossed in the mix. mes102
I think it's clear that Bowden might be the guy to awake the sleeping giant of our football program here....Don't want to get ahead of myself here, but this could very well be the start of us being the Boise State of the East.... Captain Kangaroo
Don't want to get ahead of myself here, but this could very well be the start of us being the Boise State of the East.... Maybe we should win a conference game before the BCS Bowl talk begins?
mes102
Maybe we should win a conference game before the BCS Bowl talk begins? agreed...but I think that might be a given with how our division in MAC has turned out in the re-alignment... Big Zip
How awesome would it be to have Tommy Bowden come in as something like recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach. The whole damn family would be here....bobby could buy a suite to watch his boys with his Discover Card money.

Everyone is just excited because this is probably the biggest notoriety the Zips have gotten in their history. Unlike 1986, we now have the training facilities, the rebuilt campus, and a brand new stadium to go along with a bold coaching move. More pieces are in place now than ever before, by far. If we flop, it would be a huge surprise to me.
akzipper
I think it's clear that Bowden might be the guy to awake the sleeping giant of our football program here.... Sadly the sleeping giant is in more of a coma. Win 2 games next year and have increased attendance. All I ask Terry! Is there any truth to Tommy Bowden coming on board to coach? That would be an amazing hire, especially as a recruiter, OC, or Wr's coach. BTW seems his daughter is a bit like Bernie Kosars haha, be careful when doing a google search! He didn't say that to Tommy, he said it to HIS coach, Bobby . Don't believe me, check his Facebook page.
