Dave in Green
Zips are the road team, ORU the home team. Lunardi bracketology currently has the Zips as a #14 seed in the NCAA tournament while ORU is a #13 seed. If we win at their place, maybe we switch seedings. johnnyzip84
Listening to KD now, he seems pretty happy with ORU given their ability this year and our familiarity with the program. I think if you focus on what ORU has done at home, it's obvious this will be a difficult challenge. The only loss (UTSA) was by one very early in the season. They seem to have really been pouring it on lately. They'll be favored for sure.
burrdie
There had won the last 13 games. We can beat them if we bring our A game. they really have not played anyone BIG Did you hear what the announcer said when they mentioned we beat Miss. He dismissed it like it was an accident. Guess we will have to show them!!!
FromdaBurgh
For all of the ORU fans...who will be creepin on this site...let me remind you of this... skip-zip
+1 Me too. It might be a chance to beat a little bit higher RPI team, but it's a matchup that nobody will care about, and thus nobody will think any more highly of us if we win. Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic - Mon - Jan 3, 2011 Akron vs Oral Robers 84-80 WE WON!!!! That's the way to come out firing I like it! Oh and as far as the matchup itself goes, I have two words: Scott Sutton His brother Sean is on the staff with him now at ORU. Their father Eddie of course is one of the all-time greats. Scott generally has his teams winning 20+ games and there's no reason to think they won't be decent next year. One might even compare the Suttons in basketball to the Bowdens in football (although admittedly the Bowdens have had just a little more overall success). RowdyZip
For comparison sake: Oral Roberts: vs. top 100 (3-3), vs 101-200 (8-1), vs 201+ (9-0) Akron: vs top 100 (3-6), vs. 101-200 (3-1), vs. 201+ (7-0) I can't blame them for being upset with the draw, as they may be looking at us as an easy win. Someone would have to look deeper to see we were shorthanded in 3 of our top 100 losses, we were missing Tree and Harney vs WVU, Tree vs. MTSU, and Harney vs. CSU. Not to mention no Abreu vs Duquesne.
UAZipster0305
According to gozips.com, UA is 4-0 all-time against Oral Roberts. I hope KD is actually interested in winning this game. I could be wrong, but I don't think we've won more than one Bracketbuster game during his tenure. It drives me nuts that KD's approach to these games is similar to that of the rest of the OOC schedule...who cares, the MAC is a one bid league anyhow. Certainly not the attitude that will (ever) get us an at-large or inspire Joe Akron to check out a Zips game. Come on, KD, let's win this one and continue racking up the W's heading into the MAC Tournament.
Districtballer
Valpo drew VCU. Lucky draw for them, hosing for VCU. We actually drew Northern Iowa on Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. Couldn't have asked for much of a better match-up considering we couldn't play either you or Wichita State. Very happy with this matchup. Battle of the Kansas-killers! You guys got a nice draw as well! Will be rooting for the Zips to pull out a nice road win! Rooting for you guys to get into the top 50 RPI so we can have a top 50 RPI win. Listening to Lunardi say that Akron was the CAA's best OOC win all year made me realize just how far down the CAA has fallen from last year. Would love to see you become a great quality win for us in the eyes of everyone and not just those of us who are wise to how good the Zips are. Big Zip
Seems to me that 10 more well placed points and the Zips could be playing in the best match-up. Four against Valpo and CSU and two more against VCU(corrected). I'm hopeful next year I am not typing a similar statement. On the flip side I think we need to beat ORU soundly to prove we are a better team than the rest of the country thinks we are.

On the flip side I think we need to beat ORU soundly to prove we are a better team than the rest of the country thinks we are. Two more vs. VCU wouldn't have hurt either. KD's past editions have struggled against "upper-tier" Bracketbuster opponents. ORU is much better than average, but a notch below the Nevada and VCU teams that we just couldn't beat. ORU would be a nice win for the Zips. Does Rex Humbard have a basketball team?
scottditzen
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_Roberts I had a vision of a 900 foot kangaroo who guaranteed a Zips victory.

Come on, KD, let's win this one and continue racking up the W's heading into the MAC Tournament. The Zips are actually 3-4 in bracket buster games under KD, with wins over Niagara, Austin Peay and Creighton, and losses to Valpo, VCU (2) and Nevada. Also, under KD the Zips are 2-0 against Oral Roberts. The win last year, and the Zips went to ORU in 2006 and beat them by 2. Overall, not a bad matchup for Akron. For this year alone, ORU is the best team the Zips could've realistically hoped for. Personally, I still wish we could've drew Iona for the return trip, especially since Tim Cluess reupped through 2017 there. He will be Iona's version of Keith Dambrot, and will have them winning 20 games and in the hunt for the NCAA tournament every year.
