psc2009 Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 It was almost a coin toss between Ohio, Ball State and Akron. TMD gave it to the Bobcats though based on their overall record and the talent that team is putting on the floor. Akron would have gotten top billing had its final score with the Bulls been a little closer. This is shaping up to be a tremendous Akron squad. http://themacdaily.com/?p=318 Quote
bigsix0 Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 If it would have been a little closer? The Zips were down 3 points with 1:16 left in the game. Quote
UAZipster0305 Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 And we beat Ohio head-to-head. And Ball State lost to EMU. Quote
Jalapeño Zippy Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Yeah, respectability of this blog just went out the window. Wait, did it have any to begin with? Quote
The Hip Zip Posted January 22, 2012 Report Posted January 22, 2012 Yeah, respectability of this blog just went out the window. Wait, did it have any to begin with? I like JSF. That said, he does have an OU bias that I can understand. But to say that OU has more talent than the Zips is going off the deep end. Nobody in this conference has more talent 1 through 9 than the Zips. Not even close. Quote

Hilltopper Posted January 22, 2012 Report Posted January 22, 2012 I'm sure after last nights performance by UB, we will be ranked #4. Quote
Quickzips Posted January 22, 2012 Report Posted January 22, 2012 UA and UB are the two best teams in the conference right now. No doubt in my mind about that. What order you want to put them in is up to you. UB has the win head to head. UA has the better record. Ball State is the best team in the West (sorry EMU), but I still don't see a team from them that is ready to compete with the powerhouses of the East. At best they can maybe go 3-3. Outside of Ball State nobody in the West is worth mentioning in the same breath as the top 3-4 teams in the East. Unfortunately 1 or 2 of them may well end up stealing an early round by simply based on the fact that even a mediocre West team is going to have a stellar record because of how weak their conference schedule ends up. Ohio can get hot on any night and run a team out of the gym from the 3 line, but they are wildly inconsistent, have no real threat in the post and the idea that they are the deepest team in the league is absolutely laughable. Can't is a team in absolute disarray. There is no leadership on that team at all. Their depth is suspect on good days and without Justin Greene they have nobody in their frontcourt that can even come close to matching up against the bigs that Akron, Buffalo and others can run out on the floor. Ohio shot badly against UB but still beat them by 10. I agree Akron is number one by a good margin, but Buff is not number 2. Quote

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. My opinions on OU are pretty well documented around here, so I won't go into too much detail again. Needless to say, I think Buffalo is the better team right now. The days of the MAC being a league dominated by guards are over with. It is a new era for the MAC, and the headliners are now big guys who can run the floor, finish at the rim, post up, block shots and get opponents in foul trouble. OU may have the best backcourt in the league, but I'll take Buffalo over the Bobcats because they are better adapted for this new era of MAC hoops. Quote

I wish the Zips had Ball State at home or didn't draw them first but if the Zips defeat them at Muncie, they should be able to sweep the West (although I'm sure one unexpected loss will pop up). Ball State has a tough draw, they go to Can't, Buffalo and Ohio. 3-3 might be very realistic against the East. Quote

Ball State more so than the Broncos, but Western is undefeated at home this year. Central on the road does not scare me much at all. Eastern, NIU and Toledo at home should all be blowouts. 4-2 is an absolute minimum for us through the West. If this team is as legit as they looked in the second half last night 5-1 or 6-0 is not out of the question. Quote

I really don't get Schinaki's thinking. I also don't think Quickzips gives Ohio's defense enough credit, but that's for another time. Quote

I had no idea, thanks for the heads up. ...or, is it just more convenient to crown Buffalo the 2nd best team in the MAC since they beat Akron? Gotta give Akron credit, they did a great job of getting OU's bigs into foul trouble quikcly. Jon Smith was assigned to Zeke, he beat Zeke on the tip off but then got called for 5 fouls in only 6 minutes, he never had a chance to do anything. I'm not blaming the refs but if you objectively look at the replay those were some questionable calls. To Smith's credit, at least when he went back to the bench the cameras didn't catch him pouting and crying. Damn that was awkward. (sorry, that's probably a sensitive subject). at this point I'd say the most over rated team is Can't. Quote
