ZipAnalyst Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Pluto's article in today's ABJ should be the impetus for the Zips to schedule NAIA power Walsh University, North Canton, OH at the JAR - the first game.It would be great to see the former SVSM teammates play a game against each other in Akron! Zips fan Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Why would The University of Akron want to play an NAIA school. This would count as competition and the Zips would not even get credit for a win against a Division I school. The Zips need to play a competitive OOC schedule not some NAIA or DIII school. I would much rather see the Zips trying to schedule teams that are traditional tournament teams. The more top 100 RPI games the better. Quote
JP Morgan Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Hey Pluto, we'll agree to play Walsh as soon as you call for Ohio State to play Akron in B-ball. Quote
GP1 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Pluto's article in today's ABJ should be the impetus for the Zips to schedule NAIA power Walsh University, North Canton, OH at the JAR - the first game.It would be great to see the former SVSM teammates play a game against each other in Arkon! WOW, this is a stupid idea. ZA, you should be ashamed of yourself. It was such nonsense that I actually had to go read the article to make sure Pluto didn't really write it, because it is just the type of stupid idea he would have. When did UofA become the class reunion spot for former St. V. players? To be quite honest, I could have cared less about The James Gang when they were all at St. V. I didn't waste any time going to the games then and watching Akron play a game against an NAIA school in order to satisfy the over-bloated egos of St. V. graduates amounts to nothing but a waste of two hours plus the cost of the ticket plus travel time. No thank you! Quote
msopher Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 The game against Dennison was bad enough. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 We should play Walsh in football too, since Jim Dennison is now the coach. Pluto continues to perpetuate his own stereotype... Quote
ZipAnalyst Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 If I see anymore of this on the Zip schedule of the future:November 19, 2005. Akron 116 - St Vincents College 65.December 7, 2005. Akron 123 - Dennison 52. Now this really helps the RPI!Then the Zips v. Walsh would be more than "tongue in cheek" for those ZipsNationers who were not bright enough to see my sarcastic twist on Pluto's piece.Oh, its such a burden to have to deal with the hoi polloi. Z-Pouch Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 What are you guys smoking ????Absolutely no where in that article does Pluto even suggest a match up between Akron and Walsh. It's actually a pretty good article about some local kids. Since Pluto's "showing some love article", I have had several outside business associates come up and comment out of the blue about the Zips (2 even asked about tickets - just weird). Funny but the guy carries some weight around this area. I second, third and fourth that we schedule only Div 1 opponents in BB and FB for the regular season. That Dennison game was brutal to watch - Felt pretty sorry for those guys losing a real game by 70. Although, I never thought I'd see a college team score 70 points in a half. (BTW - I'd guess that exhibition games probably have to be against NAIA, Lower Divisions, or traveling foreign clubs) Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Funny but the guy carries some weight around this area. No one denies he carries weight in the area. Hell, so does Earnest Angsley. Thyere are many sheep in the area. As you can see by attendance, there are far too many people who witness games through Pluto's eyes than witness it for themselves. Thus what he says is gospel. What I personally can't stand isA.) His hypocrisy (refer to the Owens/Hipsher credit issue)B.) His "WWII Switzerland Approach" to writing Susie Sunshine columns while Owens, Crawford and Hipshers' teams grossly underperformed. The more positive stuff he writes about the Zips, the better. But I have a very hard time forgiving the sins of his past 6 years just because the Zips are now winning. He stuck his head in the sand for 6 years. No free passes for that. Quote
zip37 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I am not a SV fan, nor will I ever be, but the article was a nice puff piece, I would love to see Walsh play the Zips in an exh game-- don't take Walsh lightly-- back in the early 70s--Toledo sched the Zips @ TOL when they had 2 guys that ended up in the NBA (John Brisker was one I can't remeember the other.) Zips won. Coach Young is a great coach--probably the equal of Huggs and Dan Peters (now asst at OSU) the game would be great but the Zips have too much to lose. I went to the NAIA tourney one year, and they play a great game. WBALAL Quote
