GalleyBoy
Michael Reghi just mentioned that Jim Tressel might be joining the University in some aspect. From things that I have heard, he will be dealing with Alumni relations and have athletics report to him. I was very surprised to her Reghi mention this and he said it might happen tomorrow morning. I know that Akron and Tressel have had talks in the recent weeks including meetings between Proenza and Tressel about him possibly coming on board. I thought the Colts job might deter that but it sounds as if this may happen. This would be a great move for Akron. This not just a random made up room. I trust my source on this. GalleyBoy
I believe Tressel will be involved with Alumni relations and he will be the administrator that athletics reports to.
UAZip0510
Imagine a recruit coming to UA's campus. He looks around at our incredible facilities, walks through out beautiful stadium, and then sits down with Terry Bowden and Jim Tressel to discuss football. You've got to like the chances of getting that kid to sign a LOI.

Zipgrad01
TB seems to be doing just fine without him. No doubt he is doing fine, but even Bowden doesn't have the clout with Ohio recruits that Jim Tressel does. It is a win-win.

UAZip0510
Statement from UA: "When Jim Tressel and other alumni assisted us in our search for a football coach last December, we began to engage in dynamic conversations about Jim's professional goals outside of athletics. We share a common interest in innovative programs for student success. Our discussions continue." NON-athletic position? Interesting...

Zipgrad01
Yeah, hope they cleared this with Coach Bowden. I am sure he is on board with this. No way are they making a move like that without him being involved. I am sure he sees how it would benefit him.
burrdie
Yeah, hope they cleared this with Coach Bowden. In the cleveland paper to be announced tomorrow BB game announcers mentioned it. I wonder if this was in the works all along? Tessel cannot do it because of NCAA but he sure could be a "helper" so to speak.
GP1
Yeah, hope they cleared this with Coach Bowden. I would hope so as well. If this is true, I'm not certain why Proenza couldn't leave well enough alone. I don't want this to be like the horrible situation Faust was put into when Dennison worked as an athletic director. tbozeglav
Shall Tom Wistrcill feel nervous about this? unless the hiring is for something entirely outside of athletics (HIGHLY unlikely to me), I think this would be a good observation. wadszip
Jim Tressel is obviously just pursuing his lifelong dream of cultivating innovative programs for student success. I don't know how the show-cause the NCAA slapped on Tressel affects a position outside of coaching. But I imagine it follows him even if it's a non-coaching position within the athletic department. However, I don't see how the university can't hire him in a position outside of athletics, then once his show cause expires in five years, he could joint the athletic department. Reading between the lines, this could be a way to set him up to be the AD down the road. Edit: meant to quote AdaZip

Dave in Green
A source has kept telling me there was something going on between UA and Tressel, even after Bowden was hired. Tressel has a lot to bring to a university in Ohio that aspires to greater things. If it isn't obvious now what Tressel would bring to UA, it will become clearer to everyone as this plays out. Buckle up and prepare yourselves for an exciting ride that will carry UA and Zips athletics into a new dimension. Think Big.
ZachTheZip
The rumor made it on to Sportscenter. Holy crap this is blowing up fast. ASN had the scoop, got to give them credit if this is true. Also, I would have to think the best positions for someone like him would be as cheif fundraiser or something to do with marketing to alumni.
