NewZipsFan Posted February 14, 2012 Author Report Posted February 14, 2012 Not trying to start a fight on ZN.o, we've had enough of those, but it's 100% FACT that she sang to a dead microphone while her prerecorded voice was played. Link Link Link As you can see, it's common knowledge (since days after the performance) that it was lip-synced. I may go slit my wrists now.... Well, as the one article said, the NFL basically requires it now. I can understand why, I guess. Even still - the performance was one of the most moving I had ever seen. I will stand by my "Whitney Houston's National Anthem is the best of all time". That is all Quote

It was a bit moving in that it was a few days after the Gulf War started. So in that sense it's a powerful rendition and rightfully famous....just not as good as Faith Hill (who I despise btw). Quote
Dave in Green Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 I don't doubt for a moment that Whitney Houston's Super Bowl singing performance would have sounded every bit as good had she been allowed to perform it live. Quote

If you read the SI article Dr. Z linked to she did sing it live but she sung into a dead mic. The players and referees even teared up a little listening to her. So there is actually truth on both sides. Quote

ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 It's funny when I see this and it reminds me of being in college. I swore I would never get up early in the morning to exercise again. Now that I'm in my 40s, I get up three days a week at 5:00AM to go work out at my gym. It's a lot easier to do when a I'm not hungover and people aren't yelling at me for an hour. Actually, it's that you (and most of us) are getting old, so you don't sleep as well as you used to, and as your prostate grows you have to pee more at night. It's easier to just get up and moving than not at your advanced age. Quote
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Let's not get crazy. Traditionally, there is nothing better than this: Dude you're effing high. Whitney's was without a doubt the greatest National Anthem ever sung, assisted by the recording or not. It was later released as a single and became the #1 song in the country. Faith Hill? Seriously? Either you are a hillbilly country western dude or, like I said, high, probably on crack, which was of course one of Whitney's favorite drugs. Quote

I just don't think it's that impressive if I can't hear just her singing live...sorry! Quote

Sometimes I read the news and hear of something happening outside of a bar at 1:00AM and I think to myself, "1 AM? I'm getting up to take a leak at that time." Quote
zipseuph Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Let me put this National Anthem debate to rest right now. End of story. Quote
zipsfan33 Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Why no love for Enrico Polazzo? Fan: "The umpire, its Enrico Palazzo!" Crowd: "Enrico Palazzo, Enrico Pallazo, Enrico Palazo!" RIP Leslie Nielson! Quote
NewZipsFan Posted February 14, 2012 Author Report Posted February 14, 2012 I'll tell you who'd vote for this one... Coach Bobby Bowden.. He is a HUGE military buff. All he reads is military history, and if he hadn't been a coach he would've either been a Preacher or a General Quote

It would have been better if it didn't feel so rushed for the first several stanzas. Quote

Big Zip Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 I say what about Rocco Scotti...and the young folks have no idea what I am talking about, Quote
RootforRoo44 Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 I say what about Rocco Scotti...and the young folks have no idea what I am talking about, I ran into him with my dad in the dark concourse of Cleveland Stadium during the last Indians series there in '93. Got his autograph on the game program that I still have to this day...great memory. It's too bad that it took so long for him to do an Anthem at the Jake (opening day 2001?). Anyway, is he still alive even? He must be over 90 by now. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 OK now that we've discussed the National Anthem (no, not the Radiohead tune) to death, does anyone have any more insight into spring workouts? NZF, I think this means you Quote
NewZipsFan Posted February 15, 2012 Author Report Posted February 15, 2012 OK now that we've discussed the National Anthem (no, not the Radiohead tune) to death, does anyone have any more insight into spring workouts? NZF, I think this means you Sorry it took so long... but since I do not work at Akron, attend Akron, or am in any way officially affiliated with Akron - and I am not psychic, I've got to take what I can get when I can get it Work outs this morning went significantly better than the first one on Monday (which was to be expected). The players performed the drills better, and some guys who kind of "lurked" in the back on Monday, were FRONT and CENTER this morning. They are quickly learning what Coach Bowden expects, and are quickly adjusting their mentality to make sure they are giving Coach what he wants in terms of effort and attitude. I'd say that sounds like a very good start. Quote
