Class of 82
First, the Elton Alexander... gasp... failed to compare them to the 1976 Indian Hoosiers after they beat us by one in the MAC title game. (A 47-reply thread!) Now, it seems Bobkitty Nation is shocked to learn that OU is not exactly popular with other MAC fans, even if most other MAC fans are generally happy to see them doing well. http://www.bobcatattack.com/messageboard/t...1&PID=63941 For the lurking OU fans desperate for validation, sincere congratulations on the Sweet 16 and for helping keep my bracket in good shape. But please, twist one up and get over your insecure selves.
MDZip
As I scrolled through comments from them and others, I found it interesting that Akron was more disliked than I realized. Generally that happens when teams are successful, so I would take it as a compliment. You know, when you get right down to it, all of the MAC schools and their fans are basically pretty similar, a little insecure, passionate about their teams, and play with a bit of a chip on their shoulders. It's symbolic of the "not quite good enough" club. Glad to see a MAC school enjoying a little success on the National Stage. Just wish it was us. g-mann17
Ah OU fans... It's funny a compliment thread gets turned into us "attacking" them and being jealous. Yeah we are jealous, not that you don't deserve to be there, but that we could have accomplished the same thing. I mean we're a bad charging call away from ohio getting a mediocre seed in the CIT and potentially sitting out completely.
Big Zip
I went to the championship game with a good friend who graduate d from OU. He wore a light blue and white pinstripe shirt to the game -- while my wife and I were decked out in our Akron gear. I explained to him I found it hard to take him seriously as he rooted for OU. He texted me yesterday and wanted to know how I like OU now? I asked him if he was really going to commit now and by some gear -- stop being a poser (is that word still used). He told me he had an OU hat. OU fan is funny in this sense and actually not terribly unlike Joe Akron. I do give him credit though -- he is not an OSU honk. My other OU friends are OSU honks from the word go and I can't even get them to join me when Akron plays OU in anything.

Not unlike a lot of Akron alumni who were classmates of mine at UA. I just find it a little pathetic that OU fan seems so concerned about what other people are saying, especially when they're having a dream tournament run. Sometimes I think the whole tOSU/OU thing gives them something of a Napoleon complex. P.S. On a side note, they even have a current Andy Hipsher thread. Really, you're probably saying? Yeah... really. It's sad. (Apparently, Andy is a junior assistant on Stan Heath's staff?)
zipdiehard
I saw that thread as well. What a bunch of insecure people. They can't even enjoy their success without making it like everyone is against them. Who really cares what the rest of the MAC fans say. I am waiting for their "tOSU" fans can't handle our success thread...

In my experience, OU fans take the cake. Every MAC school is looking up to someone else, but I get the feeling the bongcats take it more personally, probably due to the whole OSU/OU thing. Then again, maybe I'm always sitting next to the wrong OU fans every time we play them(anything is possible...).
UAZip0510
They're in the Sweet 16 and they're worried about what people from other MAC schools think? After Can't State, I consider Ohio to be our greatest rival. Did they really expect us to just jump aboard "Bobcat Nation" and forget that? Was Ohio State cheering for Michigan? Was Auburn pulled for Alabama? Do you think Purdue is happy for Indiana? I'm sure North Carolina was bummed out when Duke got bounced. I'm not saying Akron-OU is as big of a rivalry as those, but they are still conference rivals...why is it that people expect us to do what few others do and cheer for one of our rivals? I know for a fact they were terribly bummed. Did you see the UNC contingent during that Lehigh game? They almost out numbered the Duke fans. It was impressive. Class of 82
So... this thread is making fun of other people for being concerned about what people think about them? Do I have that right? Not at all, JSF. This thread is about making what I believe is a fair comment about people who, instead of just enjoying what should be a wonderful time for them, feel compelled to be needlessly concerned about what other people think about their team's run. They started a thread to rip other MAC fans... several by name... for not paying sufficient obeisance. It's childish and insecure, but I think it's a fairly typical example of what gets posted at that particular board. If you disagree, that's okay. But spare me the holier-than-thou crap. Okay? We're all needlessly concerned with what other people think. Otherwise, we wouldn't visit each other's boards. But I don't think there's anything really bad going on here. Other posters disagreed with the premise that caused this thread to appear. But no OU fans came over here to say this. They kept it in house, so... I think it's a non-story. But that's just me. Bobkitty fans have to now that even though we "hate" them in the largely meaningless sports sense of that word, most of us are wishing their team well... for now. I certainly am. I hope they can find some way to beat the Tar Heels.
OZoner
I think that is the case. But you get those people that freak out at almost anything.
