GP1
Article The USFL was a good league when it was in business until Donald Trump destroyed it. Now a chance for a successful spring football league with players having access to NFL teams. Perfect! As a bonus, possibly coming to a stadium near you. Enjoy the read. GP1
I'm assuming they would play in Infocision. I can't see why not. UofA could pass for any number of reasons, but unless we would be getting screwed in a contract with this league, I can't see why it would be a bad idea. People in NE Ohio love football. Give them some football with good players playing and they will go to games. If we passed, I'm sure Canton would take a swing at it, but that is probably too far from Cleveland and this league would want to draw from Cleveland. So far, this seems like a good idea, but there is a long way from an idea to execution of the idea. The fact that a COO from an NFL team left to start the league makes me feel good about the possiblities. The league would need a guy who understands how to run not only a team, but a league. He also would have a good understanding of the finances and could balance sports and business. Long way to go...
akzipper
I'm assuming they would play in Infocision. I had always wondered if a UFL team could work in Akron. But since that league is very financially unstable, maybe this new league could work. Bring in some revenue to UA and surrounding businesses during the Zips offseason. Just as long as it doesn't hurt the Zips, I'm fine with it!
Spin
Having lived through the WFL, USFL, XFL, CFL in USA, WLAF, and ArenaFL1, UFL I'm a bit skeptical. It's one thing to run a minor league basketball or soccer team with 10-20 players. Or a minor league baseball team with the players paid by the major league affiliate.' But football teams are not cheap. You have to outfit 40+ players, pay them, transport them, put them up on the road. I've seen it too many times. I've seen the stories of teams using the other team's jerseys because theirs were repossessed. Roster turnover between games because the player paychecks bounced. Players stranded thousands of miles away because the team folded during a road trip. Practicing on playgrounds because the checks to the high school they were renting the practice field from bounced. Teams moving to other cities DURING the season. I wish them the best of luck, it would be fun to watch. But if I could give one bit of advice to the U if they're going to get involved with this mess, GET PAID UP FRONT. And make sure the check clears!!! I would like to see something like the NBA D-League or Minor League Baseball. If Akron were to get a team affiliated with the Browns it would be huge. Teams made up of lower round draft picks, undrafted players, practice squad, etc. These guys are already getting paid, why not just let them play? Better than making them stand on the sidelines all year and never get to see any real game action. BUT we can't have it overlap the NFL or NCAA schedule. Needs to be a spring or summer league. skip-zip
I'm not sure how I am supposed to read into the comment about "cities that don't have major college football".
Zipmeister
I think it was pretty clear.

So it should be modeled after NFL Eroupe?
