GP1
Channel 5 sent a crew to Omaha. It was a no brainer for them. They did a study and found the number of house fires drop the last two weeks of June and figured they had to keep their crews busy doing something. Every TV station can send every crew they have to Omaha...hardly anyone is watching.

I hate to say this, but everyone was watching the Ken+ vs. Florida game at the restaurant I was in last night. In Akron. And it was a different place. I'm hating to see this. But, you'd have to live up here to see how sickening it is that Ken+ is getting so much attention from people in this area right now. RootforRoo44
I know. I hate it too. Like I've said many times, this is one of those instances where I wish soccer was more popular. And thanks for the additional thoughts about that call that got Ken+ the victory. As I said, regardless of whether it was right or wrong, I still believe that's a very, very tough spot in which to jump in and make such a judgement that wiped away a run, and did indeed directly lead to a team's loss. No doubt, and thankfully soccer has the potential to grow plenty still. It was a tough spot to make that call but I still think it was the correct one. And the Florida kid made the mistake of biting in the first place, otherwise it wouldn't have even come down to a close one like that. That's always been part of the allure of baseball for me as well. The difference in styles in umpiring for each guy can surely impact a game, but in the end there were hundreds of pitches in that game, any of of which could have swung (pun intended) the game into Florida's favor. Also, I always say that there are three things that win a baseball game more than anything else. Can't did two of the three in that game: 1) Have the biggest inning (Can't 2nd inning- 3 runs) 2) Make the least errors (Can't-1, Florida-2) 3) Walk the least amount of opposing batters (Can't-6, Florida-1) Nothing describes how Can't won that game more than that. The two errors and that second inning KILLED Florida (4 unearned runs).

People have to watch something in bars. Can't is a local story. People will watch a local sports story before they watch anything else. Can't baseball is a fad right now. It will go away like disco. Dr Z
Even the Zips are getting publicity out of Ken+s big run. Example Here.
bobbyake
Even the Zips are getting publicity out of Ken+s big run. Example Here. Ha, too funny. Can't State is considered an Akron metro school so it's nice to see Akron bars support a local team. It's been at least 15 years since I've been to an Akron baseball game and this Can't run has created a desire to go to next years Can't v Akron game
skip-zip
Even the Zips are getting publicity out of Ken+s big run. Example Here. Even the news station's correction of the error is hilariously incorrect. They say, "The Zips are Akron's Mascot, not Ken+'s Mascot"

I don't give a crap about baseball, but am following because it is a nice story (even though its Can't). I've tuned into every game since the beginning of the Oregon series. GP1
You're delusional. People all over Ohio, and the nation are following this. Can't is the cinderella team. How many people are watching it? Does anyone know the ratings the Can't games are getting? I think it is a neat story in some ways, but I don't buy into the CWS having a major impact on a school. South Carolina won last year and everyone was excited for about five minutes...then they started to think about SEC football. Five minutes after Can't is finished, everyone in Ohio will start to worry about whatever football team they watch. Don't get sucked into the hype. America isn't talking about Can't baseball. I'm sure the national numbers may not be impressive. But, NE Ohio is all over this, and that's more damaging than anything. See my stories in previous posts. At the very least, they've gotten tons of nightly, high profile attention in NE Ohio, from a non Football or Basketball sport. This kind of story resonates among prospective students and athletes who are making their college choices.
Class of 82
I "hate" the Flashers, but I'm rooting for them, just like I was rooting for the Elite 8 team in basketball. I like underdogs, and I like that a lot of NE Ohio kids are on their team. It would take a miracle for them to win it all, but it took something of a miracle... and a pretty good baseball team... just for a MAC team to get there. I get that this isn't near the stature of NCAA football or basketball, of course, but the CWS is still a pretty big deal, if you ask me. And it's getting a little bit bigger every year as more and more MLB prospects see college as an option over getting drafted or signed out of high school. I just hope Akron baseball can get to where they can compete at this level. That would be way cool.
