Zips Tailgating

2 years ago I was finishing up school so I lived within walking distance of the stadium. Last year I'm sad to say that we were so bad that I didn't care to attend any games. This year though, I'm very excited for the season and would like to try tailgating a few times with some friends to get ready for some games. Any suggestions for a first timer? Can I park in any lot if I pay or am I limited to certain lots? Which lots are the most fun? Can we openly drink in the these lots? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you just want to test the tailgating waters, you might want to inquire about single day passes. When my tix came, I was surprised to see a Lot 9 pass for each game, which leads me to believe they might be selling single days for the Z-fund lots. If that is the case, you might be able to test out a couple of different lots and see what you like.

My tent is always open to anyone who would like to party. If you don't have a lot pass, just park somewhere close off Exchange and bring your cooler. I will have plenty of cooking capacity this year for visitors to use. Only stipulation is love for the Zips.

Looking forward to meeting you guys in just about 14 days, 22-23 hours....

Oh - that brings me to a question -- I was surprised to see that the stadium gates do not open until 60 minutes before kick off (??). I found that pretty odd -- especially since the team usually comes out for warm ups at about 55 minutes prior to kickoff. I investigated a bit -- and heard that the demand to have the stadium open any early just hasn't been there -- but the facilities people are willing and ready to change that policy once the fans "demand" it. I have always liked to tailgate for 2-xxx? number of hours, and then get into the stadium no later than 45 minutes prior to kick off (granted -- I have not been to a Zips game yet -- and my experience has been mostly at UGA and UM).

How early will the "diehards" start tailgating? With our first game being on Thursday night - and an early 7pm kickoff, I don't expect people too early... Which is kind of unfortunate - because it would be really great for the first game day to be able to build the excitement through the afternoon..

So -- in a nutshell -- what time will ya'll be out there on 8/30?

@Dr. Z

At some point I want to get a vehicle exclusively for tailgating, but couldn't quite justify it for this year. I was going to build a tailgate trailer but decided that was just a stop-gap half-step. I need a tailgate van. For this year, I am going to bring a full size grill on a cargo carrier along with my table top stuff so we can cook better.

@NewZipsFan

I will be there as soon as someone else will agree to meet me. Just name the time.

@AkSportsFan

Come on down!! By 3 o'clock I will be several beverages deep. :)

I cannot wait to see your new gear, Keener. I'm taking that afternoon off from work, and I'm hoping to be down there around 3:00 pm. NZF, ASF, Spin, Polyzip and others you are all welcome to stop by for some eats and refreshments in Lot 9 throughout the season.

The one thing that concerns me about the opener is whether Lot 9 will be open to both tailgaters and students taking evening classes that night. I'm concerned about getting a decent parking spot if that's the case. Can anyone shed any light on this situation?

I was wondering the same thing, JZ. I am going to try to get there early enough to save a couple with the ever popular "strategic trash can placement" technique. ;)

I don't have very much new stuff this year. Just a few improvements. The best stuff I will be bringing is liquid. I've got a couple of goodies for you. :cheers:

I am skipping all evening classes. (sucks that its the first week of class!) 3pm sounds about right!

I am looking to join in one someones tailgating efforts for my lack of a parking pass. Would love to be able to purchase one for the Saturday games.

Go ZIPS!!!

Are you a student? Have you heard about the new Student Tailgate lot the Athletic Department has created? It will be directly across the street from Lot 9 (north of Subway) and will be free for students with a campus parking pass. First come, first served. Hopefully you can take advantage of this.

This is awesome. I'm not going to take credit for the creation of this lot but I did email a few different people back in January and maybe that along with some others that may have asked question got the ball rolling! I'll park over there but I'm sure I'll still wander on over to lot 9 to prepare for victory with you fine people!

Go ZIPS!!!

Facebook Event

Me and my roommates are inviting people out for some food and brews for the home opener. We are going to try and create a good environment over at the new student lot (9B) Which is on the corner of Spicer and Exchange. Everyone is welcome to stop by. BYOB and we will have limited food. We plan on being setup at about 3. Let me know!

Just picked up a White #16 Zips Jersey (Game worn) and a #86 Blue Jersey. They have a bunch of them in the Football offices in the Field House. $20 each. Deal of the century. They are from 2007 from what I can tell.

Nice... My sources tell me that #16 was worn by 2 Zips players in '07 Sean Fobbs and Andy Hildreth. Do they have multiple numbers to pick from? Fat guy sizes XL and XXL? This is exciting news... I cant get down there on weekdays because I am a teacher...

There are a bunch left. All sizes. Some are nicer than others. Definitely a great deal. They will need to be hemmed unless you plan on wearing them as a night gown.

Thanks for the heads-up. I wish sales like this were better publicized! I picked up a Blue 60 (Dan Marcoux) and a White 67 (Deni Odofin)
