UCF game sold out?

Probably won't be a sell out, but based on Ticketmaster research if we get a healthy student showing we should be over 23,000 (not bad for an opening game for a 2-22 team over the previous two years).

I would not trust that. Places like Ticketmaster usually will buy blocks of seats and resell them. I would take that number then give a spread of about 3000.

General admission is already classified as low availability on Ticketmaster (this means less then 15% of GA tickets remain).

Browns aren't playing starters, this is a great night to be out, beer is available, nothing but optimism surrounding the program. I think people come to this over staying home.

Attendance was 12,616, but student attendance made up more than a third of that. 4,000+ students.

I figured that with the student interest so high, the rest of the potential fans would scale proportionately. Guess not.

The power being out on most of campus and classes being cancelled for the night because of it sure helped.

Because the 15k avg attendance requirement was miraculously met last year, Akron can report actual attendance this year because they won't have to meet that requirement again until next year.

12k seems about right for butts in seats

12k seems low. The stadium was atleast half full and the grass was packed. My biggest concern is students will lose interest after last nights game. Matter of fact, I know that attendance number is low because 1 line in gate 4 wasn't even scanning IDs.

In the composition class I teach today, the new freshman were very down on the Zips. I wish they knew how bad the team was last year. I think student attendance is going to be way down unless the team comes back to Akron with a win.

It is to be expected, IMO. There are many casual fans that are student and not many "real" fans who actually understand what they are seeing instead of just basing the team's play off of the scoreboard. Winning is what will put butts in the seats. Even my professor took a shot at the football team today. Said he figures the University would give high school teams first priority over the stadium rather than our team.

You know what as well, I am tired of people making a huge deal because many of the students grew up OSU fans. I've been an OSU fan my whole life, but I would NEVER do what I saw yesterday. I saw probably a dozen or so people total (30s,40s,50s) wearing OSU apparel to our game! I cant say I've saw that more than a few times ever from a student attending a game.

During pre-game, the scoreboard showed a kid (probably around 15) wearing an OSU shirt. Seriously, we can't avoid that kind of blatantly generic fan?

Yes, winning, puts butts in seats, but it kills me that students won't support the only major team on campus playing during the fall. Yes, basketball will come soon enough, but the football team looks better than they have in the last 3 years. Come to games -- keep inspiring bench players to draw crowd noise on opposing third downs so it's a loud atmosphere. Even if the team loses, it's still football; it's still a renewed team under Bowden that looks like it has a promising future.

So is a major team only football and basketball? Soccer is the third best attended sport at the university and I'd say the students do an excellent job supporting them. If football catches fire (in the Bowden sense, not the Ianello sense), I'm sure the students will come out in droves.

Yes, the students support the soccer team. That's great.

Unfortunately, the soccer team isn't drawing the big money. The university needs to justify InfoCision Stadium. A good way for that to happen is for students to come to football games during the team's revival. The renovations to the soccer field aren't costing $60 million. I hope the football team wins during MAC play. That could inspire better attendance (both student and walk up).
