ZippyRulz
I really enjoy TB's press conferences..thanks for posting. It's funny that Frenchie asks most of the questions even though he's not the one that has to write the newspaper articles.. it seems he's there more as a facilitator. I'm wondering why the UT game is at night since there's no ESPN TV coverage/conflicts. Maybe due to local ABC/NBC/CBS coverage/schedules? Otherwise, it seems more practical to have the game during daylight hours.
akronzips71
The morning line is 35. I would take that bet. We will cover that spread.
Buckzip
Seems as though some of their fans really dislike their coach...so much, apparently they would want UT to lose to Akron as for the nail in the coffin to send him packin'. I am 100% for helping with the cause if it means Akron gets a 'W' in knoxville!! Go ZIPS!!! They hate him bad. They really want Charlie Strong as their new coach. johnnyzip84
The USA Today lines are now up. 34 to 35 point dog with the O/U at 63.5 to 65.5, depending on the house.
Dr Z
O/U at 63.5 to 65.5, depending on the house.Holy smokes! Did they just base that number on our last meeting total?

Dr Z
Zips Report - Yahoo Seems optimistic. The Zips lead the Mid-American Conference in total offense at 496.3 yards per game and passing offense at 378.0, and rank second in scoring offense with 39.3 points per game and first downs with 28 per game. QB Dalton Williams is the main reason. He ranks second in the nation with 10 touchdown passes and fourth in passing yards with 1,004 yards and fifth in passing yards per game at 334.7. The Akron defense is greatly improved under coordinator Chuck Amato. The Zips rank 14th in the nation in passing defense at 160.6 yards per game, and are second in the conference in total defense at 342.3 yards per game. AKSportsFan
I should have ellaborated a bit more by saying that I like the tone in which the article was written. It doesn't make it seem like we are going to get hit by a truck and that "you never know"... I am on the it only takes a few lucky bounces and a team to be overly confident for something special to happen.

bigzipguy
Despite that fact that the VOLS are concerned about their pass defense, at least their fans seem that way, what makes any of us think that we will even have the time to get the passes off ??? Sorry guys but VOLS win 63-7.
AKSportsFan
There is no chance they put that much up against us. Or, that we score that little.
Dr Z
...what makes any of us think that we will even have the time to get the passes off ??? Sorry guys but VOLS win 63-7.The Zips offense gets the ball in the hands of the receiver quickly. Our QB does not need a lot of time in most cases when he drops back. Will the Vols be able to get pressure on the Zips QB if he stands back there for 6.5 seconds...probably. Will the QB still have the ball in his hands...probably not. MDZip
Zips Report - Yahoo Seems optimistic. But my favorite quote from the article Quote To Note: “There was room for something big to happen. I thought it was the right time for someone to come in here and be successful. It used to look like a commuter school. Everything has changed. I’m here full-go.”—Akron coach Terry Bowden, on coming back to the program. I seem to recall something similar coming from Caleb Porter. If Bowden sticks around for 7 years and wins a National Championship in his fifth year, I will be quite content. johnnyzip84
Even though the O/U is pretty high for this game, I think there is a good chance that the Zips and Vols will go over. The 2012 Zips only know how to play one way on offense. I don’t see that changing even if the game gets out of hand early. And if it doesn’t get out of hand early, that probably means the Zips are scoring. Tennessee will no doubt pound the Zips with the running game, before unleashing Bray, Hunter and Patterson. I really hope NZF is all over this, but my head says the Zips will fight valiantly before the Vols pull away for a fairly comfortable victory. But the Zips will once again cover! Vols 49 Zips
ZachTheZip
Tennessee does not run the ball. They also have trouble defending the pass.
Aaron
Tennessee does not run the ball. They also have trouble defending the pass. If this is true, does the O/U on total game length start at 4 hours? And how long until Frenchie starts complaining about it again on the broadcast?
johnnyzip84
Tennessee does not run the ball. They also have trouble defending the pass. UT struggled to run (83 yards on 28 attempts) against Florida. Imagine that. A legitimate SEC defense being hard to run on Against NC St (191 yards on 38 attempts) and Ga St (184 yards on 43 attempts) they were much more successful. I’m sure they view Akron’s defense as more along these lines, and in fact will probably point to the Zips generous rush defense in the 1st two games. Unquestionably, Bray and his receivers are the heart of the Vol offense. But to say “they don’t run the ball” is just a bit of an overstatement. I still expect them to open the game up a little more conservatively, with the notion that they may think they can overpower the Zips without Bray (or whoever) throwing it 40 or 50 times. ZachTheZip
It's not that they struggle to run the ball, it's that it's not a major part of their offense even against teams that they could run all day against.

Quantify "major". less than 30%? less than 40%? less than 50%? less than 60%? Vol blogger's take on the game
